[music] >>Kathryn Being medical students we thought
this was a perfect fit and really great opportunity for us to sort of share our passion for science
and medicine with some younger kids, and we've been working with the same class now for a
year and they are currently 8th graders. [music]
>>Kathryn Their school's just a few blows away from the medical school and we thought
it would be nice to invite them here and to just give them a better sense of what we do
on a daily basis on you know, our studies. [music]
>>Kathryn You know, maybe inspire inspire a few kids to one day want to go to medical
school, or to become a nurse or an EMT. >>Volunteer So I think at this point we want
to have you guys practice. [music]
>>Student Lot of kids think that science is boring and stuff like that but when you start
like to do the activities more and stuff like that and learn about chemicals stuff and like
doctors and all that, and see what they do everyday, it's gets exciting. Have you ever
been having chest problems before? >>Volunteer No, nothing like this ever, do
you think it's something, do you think I'm having a heart attack?
>>Kathryn We're doing a simulation in our SIM center. We have this robot who is basically
a patient that we get to use and practice on. We are going to be simulating a code like
an emergency situation in which we're going to try and involve the students as much as
possible >>Volunteer So we could check his pulse we
could check his blood pressure... You guys seen this? Take a look at the monitor. See
how much faster it is? >>Student We can't lose him doc! Since I've
been here I think a doctor is on my mind. I think that, that's actually what I'm going
to be now. >>Kathryn It's really rewarding I think for
the kids and for the volunteers. It's like you know, we're learning from each other so,
it's definitely a mutual process going on here.
