Hidden object games are a unique bunch. After a while, even the best ones have a tendency
to just blend together into one indistinguishable whole...but you know, they’re usually pretty
enjoyable. I mean, I can’t remember ever reviewing one that was terrible. They’re
never too high, rarely too low...and this one reinforces the theory.
Dream Inn: Driftwood won’t blow you away, but it’s still a fun time.
You play as the new owner of a rundown seaside inn. The property is in bad shape, people
aren’t staying there and the rooms are a cluttered disaster. There are objects scattered
all over the place. But fortunately for your business, this is a hidden object game.
That’s one of the things I like about Dream Inn: Driftwood. I like that it gives all your
object finding some context and purpose. A lot of these games just tell you, “Oh, you
have to find items because that’s how these things are done.” But it’s even more fun
when you have a reason beyond that, and this one does. Maybe it’s the obsessive compulsive
neat freak in me, but I found cleaning the rooms very rewarding.
Part of the reason it’s rewarding is that it earns you money. You automatically sell
a good deal of the stuff you find, which earns you money to clean up the hotel. You can repair
the sidewalks and plant new grass, anything to improve the property and draw business.
So not only is there context, but you also get to watch how earning more money and finding
more objects actually has an impact in-game.
Silly as it may sound, just having a reason goes a long way in these titles.
Of course, it’s not just about finding stuff. A lot of the objects you find actually belong
in different rooms, so once you find them, you can return them to the rightful spot in
the rightful room. It’s a little tweak, but again, in hidden object games, little
tweaks are sometimes all it takes.
Sadly, your assistant lady gets a little annoying after a while. Had she been hotter and...less
clothed...that might’ve been a non-issue. But as it is, she’s just a manager with
an irritating voice, and I kinda wanted to fire the lady. But otherwise, business is
about pick up here at Dream Inn: Driftwood.
If you like hidden object games, this is another good one for your iPad.
