How to create your first Edublogs blog post and
then copy and paste a link to it
to a Moodle online text assignment.
Hi everyone!
To get started with Edublogs, first you need to check your email
for information on your new blog.
You will receive three emails
The first will have your user name and password and the subject will tell you this.
The second will have information on your new blog.
The third will let you know your new blog
is now part of the Institute's class blog.
Go the first email and grab your user name and password.
Then, go to the second email and click on the link to your blog.
You will see a page like this
that has opened up in a new browser tab.
As you can see, your email is still in THIS tab
this page is in a new one.
Enter your user name
[sound of typing]
and your password.
You can click "Remember Me" -
and you won't have to enter your password as often.
Now, here's a tip:
If you want to be able to go to this page
whenever you have a new blog assignment -
you can save the page to your browser's bookmarks bar.
In Internet Explorer, all you need to do is
click on the little logo
next to the address in the top left bar,
hold down your mouse, drag it
and release it onto your bar!
And you can see
that the blog shortcut is now on my bookmarks bar here.
If you're not sure if your bookmarks bar is turned on -
in most browsers typically you can right click to see
what toolbars are and are not turned on.
Once you've done that -
and you've entered your user name and password -
click the blue Log in button.
Once you log in, you will see a page with lots of information and options on it.
You can explore these options on your own.
And, if you want, you can click the Help link at the top right
and get links to user guides and all sorts of information about Edublogs.
To close that window, just click Help again.
All we're going to focus on is how to create a post
and submit it to a Moodle assignment.
To do THAt - go to the left hand menu and
hover over the word Posts. Click "Add New".
A window will load that is going to look pretty familiar
to those of you who have been using Moodle forums for a while.
And just like a forum post, you need to add a title
and then you need to add information into the description/post window.
So, click in the title field and type in a title.
Then, click in the description/post area and type your blog post.
You can use the tools on the editing taskbar to do things like
make text bold, italicise - and check your spelling.
If you want to preview your blog post, before you publish it
you can click the Preview button at the right hand side.
And you can see your blog post there.
If you want to edit your blog post -
or to publish it, click on Edit Post -
and you can click in the post field and type some more.
When you're finished, click Publish.
To view your blog post, and to share the link - click view post.
You will see your blog post.
If you go up to the address bar -
You will see that your blog post has a unique web site address.
It has your blog name.edublogs.org
then it has the date you created your post and the name of your post.
You are going to need to share this link with your teacher
if you're creating the post for an assignment.
And to do that
click in the address bar and
ensure everthing is highlighted in blue.
You can then right click
and select copy from the menu you see there.
Then, you'll want to go to the assignment.
And on the assignment page, there should be a button
that says Add submission, if it is an online text assignment.
Click Add submission and you will see a text editor box load up.
You may also see this statement
You will need to tick that box in order to submit your assignment.
Click inside the text editor to paste your link -
Type in an introduction
And you can right click to paste
But sometimes you may get a message that blocks you from doing that
and if you do, use the keyboard combination CTL V.
You will see the address of your blog post.
Click "Save Changes".
And, if you scroll down the page,
you will see the link to your blog post is there
ready for your facilitator to click on it.
And that's all there is to creating a blog post in Edublogs
and then copying and pasting a link to it in a Moodle online text assignment.

by clicking the link at the top left
of just about every page on the Institute's Moodle site.
