Hello, I am Reese Bailey Library Academic Director at
Hopkinsville Community College. Today we're going to do
a basic search using the
Academic OneFile Database. On the library's online
database page locate the Gale
Databases. Underneath that
locate Academic OneFile. Click that database
link to display the Find Field page.
Here I can enter a search tern, and my search term
today is global warming. I can now start to refine
or narrow my search. I want full
text documents,
I want peer reviewed documents, and
documents with images. then click on the search symbol
to display the results page.
On the results page there
are 1,362 results.
These are mostly from academic journals.
I can further refine my results by
looking at the related subjects list to
see if they are better align with my interests.
I can also refine my search according to available source documents:
such as articles, reports, etc.
for demonstration purposes I will click on
article. With these academic articles
I can further refine my results.
Now I have narrowed my search to 658 academic
results. I will click on the first of the results,
for demonstration purposes, and that takes us to
the source page. This is the source document
in full-text. Here we can scroll down and read
the entire document to ensure it's relevance and usefulness.
We can save this and other documents
by establishing an account, which mean
creating a folder.
This way we avoid having to go back through this same
process each time we want to use the same resources.
We can use retrieval tools listed on the left side of the page to
retrieve and view the documents, print the document,
emailed documents or download. There is also a citation tool.
You can save multiple document in
your folder permanently at no cost.
