Hi this is Shana Bethune and on behalf of Expert Village and I'm going to talk to you
about inserting and overwriting media in your sequences in final cut pro. Now in order to
get media into the sequences you either insert it or overwrite it. Inserting a clip is useful
when you already have media in the time line and you want to put something between clips
for example. So let's say I have these 2 clips next to each other but there is another clip
that belongs in between them. What I do is I go to the end point of the clip I want to
have moved down the time line, I select the portion of media that I would like to put
in. I click this yellow button over here and now the clip appears between the 2 clips that
were already in the time line. Another thing I can do is let's say I want to get rid of
this clip all together and replace it with something that is the same length. I select,
I mark the end point and the out point for this clip. I chose the point that I want to
use in my media up here and then I click the red button and now the file up here would
replace the one down here. Using overwrite edits and insert edits are the 2 main ways
that you would work with footage and the time line so it is important to understand the
difference and know how to use both of them.
