In humanitarian news, India donates over US$1.8 million to assist widows in Sri Lanka. The
Government of India is providing the grant to set up a Trade Facilitation Center and
a Community Learning Center in Batticaloa in Sri Lanka’s Eastern Province. It is an
agreement signed by Sri Lanka Ministry of External Affairs, the Government of India
and Self Employed Women’s Association (SEWA) of Ahmedabad, India. SEWA will direct a program
to teach 40 women to be master trainers in vocational areas including textiles and garments,
computers, solar lanterns, and rain water harvesting. Those individuals will then train
800 others with the support of SEWA.
Our gratitude, India, Self Employed Women’s Association, and Sri Lanka Ministry of External
Affairs, for your caring efforts to improve the lives of the women of Sri Lanka. May all
be blessed with a future of peace, security, and prosperity.
