Hi...this is Dr. Z
This is another update regarding technology
This update is on the iPod
People may be confused as the iPod is usually related to music--but it can do video
Let me being by explaining that the iPod has 4 models
They are Shuffle, Nano, Classic and Touch
When talking about video, we are talking about the iPod Touch model
The other models have more emphasis on music, but can watch video but not communicate on video like the iPod Touch
The iPod Touch was recently announced--it has a front-facing camera and a camera on the back
With a front-facing camera, you can communicate via video--but how does that differ from the iPhone 4?
The iPhone can do things like the iPod Touch
But the iPhone can make calls--the iPod Touch can make calls only though wifi
The iPhone does not require wifi to make calls, but if you want, you can use wifi to make calls on the iPhone
One note of caution--with the new iPhone 4--in order to do video communication--we are still limited to wifi
Even tho you can make phone calls -- eventually I feel it will be able to make video calls using the phone signal (3G or 4G)
For video communication on the iPhone 4, you need to use wifi, just like the iPod Touch
The iPod Touch comes in 3 different models
Depending on memory, the prices are $229, $299 and $399--it is your preference as to which model you would want
The iPod Touch will work where there is a wifi signal--you would need to find it outside your home--or in your home
When riding in a car--there's no wifi signal
But with an iPhone 4--you can call while driving if there is a 3G or 4G signal
One word of note, the iPod touch has an "old" model and a "new" model
The "old" model does not have a front-facing camera
The "new" model has a front-facing camera
When buying a iPod Touch, be sure it is the new model and has a front-facing camera
If you buy it off eBay, be sure it has a front-facing camera, because without one, you can't communicate via video
If you have any questions, you can contact me through my website--on the "Contact Dr. Z" box
Thank you for watching...until next time.
