So how was your new year?
How was your Christmas?
How was your...
Thanksgiving?
Oh, it's been a long time since I've made a video, hasn't it? it
Feels like we
need a chance to catch up doesn't it, internet?
Good times.
I remember
the good old days of
2012 when
I used to make Youtube videos.
I wanna, I wanna go back to those times now, today, with you.
The topic of today's video
is going to be job hunting which is unfortunately something that a lot of
people can relate to.
Since graduating college in December,
I have been spending a lot of time on
graduate school applications and things like that, and so I've only recently
begun looking for a job in earnest.
Now let me know if you can relate, but
have you ever
been on Craigslist or
Monster or
insert job application site of choice,
and you see a posting
for a position,
and you think
this is exactly what I need.
It's full time,
it's reception work, which I love,
It's got all these
positive qualities,
and then
at the very bottom of the requirements list, it says "must be bilingual in Chinese."
Chinese.
I knew I should have studied something other than Spanish,
particularly in southern California.
Who knew that Chinese would be
what I needed.
Or you'll click on a link that has
a very positive
title description, and you're like "Oh that
looks like it could be interesting."
So you click on the link,
and then
you realize that it's
one of the job sites that has been spamming Craigslist
with new positions
everyday for like a month
with different titles every time to try to hook you in
to becoming
a cold caller to people.
A telemarketer.
No. No thank you.
I hate it when telemarketers call my house; why would I ever want to be one?
I mean I guess if I'm desperate I might have to become one,
but at least I won't be be rude about it.
I feel like if they want me
to apply for their position
they should not be
giving me the same feelings in your job posting as telemarketers give me when
they call my house.
Because when I have all those feelings, I then do not want to be
the one who creates those feelings in people,
if that makes sense.
Or you see something that seems like it has a lot of potential work hours, which
are important
and
you click on the link, and it says
"Wanted:
full-time
overnight
ticket-seller
and
janitorial crew"
at a place
twelve miles
further
then you would
ever likely drive,
you have to be free from the ten in the morning until
two in the morning,
all hours of the day and night,
and they pay you minimum wage.
I think you can do better than that,
Sports Arena,
I think you can do better than that.
But the problem with an economy that
is
not doing so well
is that employers can afford to treat their
potential employees and their current employees
pretty poorly, because there's always going to be someone to fill the spot or
replace the person who doesn't want to work with you anymore because you're
an unpleasant individual.
And so, they don't really do a lot to
incentivize
people to do their best at their jobs because they love what they do or
because they respect the people that they're working with, and
that's something that's really unfortunate.
I've been doing some art lesson teaching on the side.
which is unfortunately not enough to pay the bills, but that's something that I love to do,
and the family that I'm teaching are very respectful of what I love to do, and
they're very encouraging, and that is a wonderful work environment.
I've also done a few commissions, which has been encouraging that people want to commission me to do
artwork.
Blatant plug:
If you want to commission me to do artwork for you, I'll put a link in the description to my email.
I might just have to suck it up and do something I hate.
But we'll see. I sent out a few resumes. I'll let you know when they come back.
Unemployed Praise is an unhappy Praise.
I've got to say, though, it's really weird being done with school.
That's one of the main reasons that I haven't been making
Youtube videos in the last few months is because
I was finishing up my thesis show, and getting all my graduation stuff
taken care of,
and then applying to grad schools.
But it's been very strange
being
not a student.
The last few weeks
I've had for the first time in my life
stress dreams related to school
when I am no longer in school.
I woke up the other night
with,
you know, terror that I was late for a test. I don't have tests
ever again.
Particularly if I'm getting an MFA, because art doesn't get
tested. You get critiqued,
but you don't get tested. I will never have a test again in my life. I think
I'm in shock.
But anyway hopefully this will be shortish video, and it's just an
intro. There's more in the works already as I speak.
I've already started filming things for other things, but I wanted to let you guys know
that I'm not dead. "I'm alive; I'm alive!"
I'm alive and kickin'.
But not kicking anyone, specifically.
But if you guys have had
awful times job hunting let me know in the comments.
'Cause then I won't feel like I'm the only one. We can commiserate. We can have
a little
pity party,
a little hugfest,
and
make ourselves feel, feel a little better.
Hopefully,
hopefully something will come of
my efforts soon.
I would
like to be employed.
If you,
as a viewer,
find me an appealing person and a potential employee, please message me.
I live
in the San Diego area.
No, I will not move to Montana
just to be employed.
At this point in my life.
Maybe someday.
Although I don't think I've ever been to Montana.
What's this?
Praise is making an endscreen?
There's a first time for everything, guys, don't freak out.
But I was wondering if any of you noticed.
Did you notice that I cut my hair?
Last video it was like, down here,
and now it's like, up here.
So excited. I like it a lot.
It was a little shorter than I was expecting when I first got it cut. Got it cut,
oh this makes me feel terrible, it was cut back by around Thanksgiving,
which makes me feel like I haven't made a video in a really long time, and I'm super sorry.
I've been having the cravings to make them.
I love you all.
P.S.
Will you,
the viewer, be my valentine
this Valentines Day?
It's the time of love!
And I love you all!
So thank you
for watching my videos.
