Should you do dead lifts and squats on the same day?
The dead lift and squats are rivals for the top body building exercises. Managing to do
both in one day is a measure of pride.
Just because you can doesn’t mean you should.
You might want to do squats and dead lifts on alternating days so you don’t overdo
that muscle group. If you’ve been squatting a lot, your back may be too strained to keep
proper form dead lifting.
Then you risk injury.
You have to be careful working your back too much. You don’t want to end up with a bad
back because you were trying to get a superb one.
Back braces are not sexy. Yet I’ve seen guys do both in one day.
If you try doing both in one day, you might be too tired to get enough intensity even
if you can do it right. Then you’d might as well do one or the other but not both.
I’ve heard some guys won’t dead lift without doing squats first.
If you’ll do both in one day, most squat before dead lifting. But don’t do a lot
of repetitions of each.
The muscles tend not to allow it.
Because your body is saying no more. You don’t want to end up with Uncle Rhabdo and back
surgery scars because you did too much.
What’s the solution then?
Try straight legged dead lifts after doing squats. It works your butt without straining
your back as much.
I prefer the traditional dead lifts and squats.
Do dead lifts on days you are working out your back. Do squats on the other days.
And then, at some point, find a rest day.
The alternative is rest weeks while your back heals, and you don’t even get worker’s
compensation because it happened at the gym.
