we have the case of the and domination of craig backer
uh... to uh... the national labor relations board now
as a very very normal
nomination there's nothing
clearly objectionable out about back i would tell you the republics of
excessive in a second
uh... people say that uh... that he was a it is true that
at this point
uh... bushes administration
four different or bomb in a a bush nominees had not been confirmed
a four nominees not confirmed
over a year into his term but you know that's
you wish that everybody would get confirmed by then or not they confirming
get taken down the somebody new but comes up
you know that they would be resolved by then four that's you know you say it's a
bad number but
it's obviously a tiny tiny
and maybe that's half of us who should be used rare exception
i guess how many nominees of obama have been held up so far
at the same junction
sixty
democrats have held up for bush nominees
republicans held up sixty
all bomb a nominee
as only craig backer
and he said i well what what's their main people yet some i mean he must be
you know
extranet i'd
well uh... mike and z
for lack of a better really gives these two apartments in his republican senator
from my why don't
says first of all uh...
there too many questions about
who was asking the questions well here's ironic and funny part
he hears is quote economic garters a greater level of public scrutiny
enlarges the usual volume of questions
would you guess what
this unique who'd been should be a signal that the individual was raised
a great level concerning doctor
but this is the one that said that the other the question is the first place
uh... awesome piece of circular
well i submitted to the questions to a he did mention them wrong
it's is that they didn't answer them or they get that answers
by the very fact that i submitted these all these questions you have to wonder
what's wrong with a candidate like
that is that make sense to any of you
where does that you're a republican that logic escapes me
the second half of the problem is he has is he says look
we don't want this thing watched
through the senate
uh... he was brought over domination in
april of two thousand
what part of that as well
okay at that
insure bragging about him at
very strong speech
by saying enough is enough here in response to all of this and he said
bit even a happened dead organization
would consider that taste
editing
but lethargic
okay so come on let's go let's go with it all in all these things up
is ridiculous and they have no real complaint against them
in fact uh...
if you believe in the service employees international union president and
eastern
and some a liberal in his eyes were on the progress of side right
he says
that uh...
that uh... becker someone who was quote respect about management at labor side
attorneys
by academics liberals and conservatives alike
that's one side saying hey everybody likes him but uh... they're really
another site is no case to be made there is no
hey this is what we don't like about a more here the list of conservatives
who are against them for this reason for that reason
nothing on the other side why 'cause as we all know
it's obstructionists
they just want to slaughter going to a halt
they want to slow it down all bombers agenda and
every way
uh... possible network
given zero votes no matter what the situation
but then the government can't do its job
but you see that's exactly what the republicans want
for two reasons one
they don't want the democratic government to do its job
because they don't agree with that perfect
if their father regular rules
and
they have the votes to stop it ok that makes sense that's how democracy works
but in backers case
they put them up for a vote
he one fifty two to thirty three
that's a huge majority that he won by
except he did
cousin filibuster
so the side of the thirty-three votes
peak does not want to do what's
how democracy
that's crazy
that's crazy we don't want it
expect better
totally that except one june every case
now we can have this
now the democrats are rightfully said haven't if you can use to everybody in
this total
uh... pat leahy said i've been here over thirty years i've never seen anything
like this
uh... filibusters are supposed to be something that is extraordinaire
it now it is quite literally ordinary 'cause they do it
every instance
well okay then obviously i'll look into
uh... if they're gonna abuse the process
how do we change these rules
and that's a good question pipe you would begin that next january could do
it now
uh... when new congresses convene
now could you do it in a simple majority
well it depends at now in order to change the senate rules you need sixty
seven votes
which you're never gonna get
those days are long gone
that was back in the days their water mondale originally chains of filibusters
number the thought was is not in the constitution its set of rules negatives
on a couple of occasions and in the nineteen seventies
mondale actually led the charge to change it
to make it only sixty votes that you need rather and two thirds
but you need to address the change the world
which is never happen under these circumstances not like the old days
we get republicans and democrats switch sides well democrats which stars of the
drop of that
retailer boggs the switch sides
uh... how do we do it that
the way around that
as of new proposal but they're pressing
hey you know what
we keep change
how many votes it takes to change a set of rules
spoke by simple majority of six fifty one uh... votes we can say you know what
you know order to need two-thirds
uh... majority to
uh... change any of the senate rules including filibuster
that makes a lot of sense to me
now i want to protect the rights of the minority in the senate
okay and i think the filibusters not that bad an idea
uh... the question is
how do we
use it because don't forget
hit democrats on the majority that made it easy being a minority
and when the republican majority
and there is no filibuster
they will
steamroll everything unchanged everything until you have added instill
in the country in the first week
but out of illegal democrat lolly get in a row right
so there's not enough of us to get the thing about it long-term
you know that they want to change it
uh... harkin has a proposal to start was sixteen and thirty seven fifty five
fifty one is their work your way down
and the more time you take the debate the issue
uh... you know my fought on it is maybe fifty five senators as reasonable so
that protects the rights of the miners still
very significantly but at least it
if you are reachable goal that republicans could reach it if it would
be a majority
democrats can reach if they would be enough to jerry but six is just undoable
it's four four two large so that you can't get anything passed
it once i decisive use it but
there are a lot of proposals
whereas before i would've said hey you know what
i'm not sure you should go down that path
now i think
well if it's gonna be briefed abuse in this way and you literally can get
anything done in the senate
well then you have to look for openly to fix it
and maybe in january
some of these ideas should be considered
