The Walters State
Regional Law Enforcement Academy
is one of the area’s premier
training facilities for
law enforcement officers.
A component of the Walters State
Public Safety Division,
the academy is located at the college’s
Greeneville/Greene County Center
for Higher Education.
And certified by the
Peace Officers Standards and
Training Commission.
The Walters State Public Safety Division
is recognized throughout the region
for its outstanding record
in career preparation.
The academy offers the 8 week training
required of all new law enforcement recruits
during their first year of employment.
It is one of only two in the state
to award college credit.
Graduates earn 23 credit hours
that can be applied toward the
two-year criminal justice degree.
Cadets reside in dormitory facilities
at the college while receiving
450 hours of instruction in the
classroom and in the field.
Including a week of criminal law
conducted by the United States
Attorneys’ Office in Greeneville.
And 40 hours of driving training
on our 5-acre skills track
with an 11-turn road course.
The intensive POST-certified training
with collaboration from local police
and sheriff’s departments,
includes an emphasis on physical fitness,
defensive tactics, firearms,
and tactical driving.
