>>Michelle MacPhearson: Now if you’ve found an outstanding affiliate program with a nice
looking landing page and a decent payout, it’s time to get links onto your site.
If you haven’t found that yet, there’s always Amazon.
What I sometimes do if I’m not totally happy with any particular affiliate on offer is
to put several on my site and test them against each other.
How to link to your preferred affiliate site
(the one you really like and are pretty sure about)
Go to a webpage where that affiliate product is displayed. We are looking for an image
to display to represent the product.
I’m going to use the product box image.
I’m saving the image to my desktop.
Now I head over to the WordPress dashboard. Go to Posts (left hand sidebar) and click
Add New.
We’re not actually adding a new post - this is just an easy way to get the code we need
to insert the image. I’m clicking on upload/insert
Now I click on Browser uploader (below)
We’re going to get the code into a sidebar Widget.
In the media manager, we click on choose file, then we select that file from where we put
it on the desktop and click on the upload button.
The most important thing is the link url. This will redirect to your product and it
needs to be the redirection link that we created earlier.
We then give the image a Title (alt tag) which is another chance to cram in some keywords
without looking spammy.
By typing in Master Cleanse Juice Detox Secrets for the Title, I manage to get one of my category
keyword phrases in there.
It also has the keyword phrase related to the product itself.
Then you want to choose a center alignment.
Your image size needs to fit your site. Mine is going in the sidebar, so I’m clicking
on full size because I know it will fit.
Now click insert into post.
Here it is in the post (below) and I’ve just added some text.
And here (below) we add an affiliate link to selected text by highlighting the text,
clicking on the hyperlink button and filling in the details with our redirection affiliate
link.
The text at the bottom is now linked.
Now click on the HTML tag at the top right hand side of the page.
We are going to change these links to “no follow” so we don’t bleed PR to this other person’s
site.
You’ll see I’ve changed both links from
to
Now we copy all this html text
And go over to Widgets (click Widgets on left hand sidebar)
(Yes we can leave this page without saving the changes, click on leave this page.)
At the Widgets page, we add a text Widget.
It will be added to the bottom, but we want to grab it and drag it all the way to the
top.
This is our affiliate link and we want people to see it as soon as they hit the site.
Click the edit button and paste in all that code we just copied.
Click done
Then save changes.
Go over to our site, reload (refresh) the page and we’ll see our affiliate link in
our sidebar.
Always click your links to make sure they
work
How to rotate affiliate links to test for the best
First you need to upload the Ad Rotator Plugin to your ftp and activate it (in WordPress)
At the WordPress dashboard, click on Widgets in your Appearance menu.
Your Ad Rotator widget will be available to you.
Click on Add.
Move the Widget to the top of your sidebar.
Your Ads will be separated with this code (highlighted in blue, below)
Now we put in the code for our first ad.
We create this code the same way I showed you above for the Master Cleanse Secrets product.
After that code, copy (from the top of the editing box) and place that
at the end of your ad code to give a separation between the 2 products you will test.
Then prepare your second product as I did at the start of this lesson, with an image,
some text and both image and text redirection links.
Don’t forget to add in the no follow link text before you copy it over.
Copy the html for that product and paste it in this Ad Rotator text box.
Don’t change your text, just rotate your Affiliate Product
Something you should note is that I didn’t change any of my actual copy (ad text).
I only changed the affiliate I’m linking to, not what I’m saying about it.
This is because I’m not wanting to test my ad text, I’m wanting to test the affiliates
against each other.
I don’t want to add in any more variables by changing what I write. That would skew
the test results.
When you’re finished, click done (I’m also going to remove my single ad widget so
it doesn’t look confused on the site).
Go to your site and reload (refresh) the page a few times to check that the ads do rotate.
You may need to do this a few times because the display is random, but both should appear.
Tracking your Ads
Go to Tools in your WordPress dashboard.
Click on redirection.
You can see how many hits each of our links has had.
That’s how I’ll track the performance of these 2 ads.
They’re both Clickbank products, so I can see how many clicks each has had, then go
into my Clickbank account and see how many people have bought something from clicking
through.
That way I’ll find out which one converts better and at that point I’ll switch over
to only displaying one of these products.
I like the pretty (blue) one, but the gravity is so low it might not make any money. But
it could be a new product on the way up, so I’m going to try it.
The other one has a high gravity and is well targeted to the market.
