It’s a true learning environment because everybody’s so passionate. I really want
to learn everything that I can learn and the professors are so passionate that they want
to teach you everything that they know and the classmates are very supportive and they
jump in with their own personal experience. Everything just comes together.
They gave me the professional expertise that I can go out. It just wasn’t book knowledge.
I felt I was going to hit the road running. With having had a current working career and
all the expertise and teachings that I got from the professors and the students I interacted
with. They were so much more like me, they were working professionals and they were on
a mission to go out and make themselves better and more successful.
Class discussions were always engaging. Even if there was a topic that I wasn’t too familiar
with, the students and the interaction from the professors really added to the learning
experience. We all kind of had an eye on the future and
the recognition of what completing the program would mean for our careers. We all brought
a level of passion and commitment to the program which was great. I mean I had it. It was really
nice to see that my classmates had it as well. We’re all learning together. We’re all
advancing our knowledge together and getting better because of the interaction we have
in the classroom. I think the mindset here is to achieve the highest and have the very
best learning environment and really creating a lot of value in leading individuals and
organizations to the best possible outcomes. You learn a lot about teamwork. You learn
a lot about accounting, finance, marketing, organizational behavior. You really do learn
it all and at the end, it comes together. You just have a more in-depth understanding
of the world of business as well as whatever particular industry you may be in.
Of all the things I’m most proud of about the graduate program here at Cal Poly Pomona
is the emphasis on applied learning. Combined with small classes, intimate setting and responsive
faculty I believe the students get a high quality education leaving them to success
in their endeavors in their professional pursuits. When I launched my non-profit, I felt confident
because the MBA program allowed me to see all aspects of business. Whether it was doing
a financial study on a particular company, marketing, accounting records, anything like
that had added value to my launching of my non-profit.
Not only did having an MBA from Cal Poly get me into the associate brand manager role that
I wanted, since then I’ve been promoted and I’m now a brand manager here at NatureMade
and now Pharmavite and having an MBA and some of the skills that I gained from the MBA directly
contributed to my growth and ability to be more effective and therefore be promoted.
In addition to the education in the classroom, this program has really benefitted my professional
career. Throughout these past two years, I have had headhunters find my profile on LinkedIn,
find my resume online and reach out to me with job offers. So, not only have I deepened
my understanding of the workings of business but several different career opportunities
have presented themself. And very lucrative career opportunities as well.
A lot of professors would email or announce job opportunities and I thought that was great.
It was a constant message, communication. “There’s a job here, a job there. Apply
for this, do that.” And that’s another thing that made me think they really care
about the students. They really want to find avenues for students to succeed.
I think it’s advantageous to study here because you will be challenged. Because of
the way we teach the classes here, because of the subject matters that we’re exploring.
You will start out one way, and by the time you get through the program, you’re going
to be rock solid, confident, capable person that’s able to deal with a lot of different
situations that you didn’t know that you could deal with.
Our objective is not just to train our MBA students to become better managers, but to
enable them to become effective leaders. In simple words. Students learn it in the classroom
today, they practice it in the office tomorrow.
