-Could this be the end of football concussions?
This week, Seattle-based company Vicis
announced its helmet, the Zero1.
Significantly different than the standard helmets used
in the sport today, its new head gear
is the product of some hardcore neurological
and mechanical engineering research.
With four layers, the helmet absorbs impact and bends
much like a car's bumper.
Each helmet's also designed to the specific size
of the wearer's head.
The Zero1 was developed in collaboration
with the University of Washington
and a research grant from the NFL.
In-game tests for the Zero1 will begin this spring
on a few NCAA and NFL teams.
Though with the current price tag of $1,500 a helmet,
it may be a while before this tech will
be protecting every player.
