When writing a research paper, you are required to cite the sources in your paper. Citing
sources correctly can be a daunting job for some students. But most of our library research
databases can generate citations in standardized formats. This can be very useful. Let's see
how we can get citations from databases.
In Proquest, when you find an article you want to use for your research paper, you can
click on the "Cite" link at the top to generate the citation of the article. You will see
a pop-up box with the citation. You can change it to a different citation format if it is
not the format you are using for your paper. Simply click on the drop-down menu and choose
a different citation format, and click "Change". You can copy the citation and paste it on
your note file. It is important to note that not all the citations
generated by the databases are accurate. You still need to check the details to make sure
the format and information are correct. You may need to correct the format or add information
as needed. But it will be much easier than starting from scratch. It is like cooking
from a box, it may not be perfect but it can't go too wrong.
In EBSCOhost, you click the "cite" link on the right to see citations of the article
in eight different citation formats.
Other databases like SIRS Knowledge Sources, and CQ Researcher also have similar functions
for generating citations of sources. Explore the links at the top or on the side to get
the citation.
Remember, the library research databases not only provide us with thousands of credible
sources, they can also generate the citation of the source in a standardized format. This
really comes in handy when you need to prepare citations for your paper.
