(Jared) The company was started in 1948 by my grandfather, out of his garage.
And... grew and now we're 80,000 square feet here in Greendale.
Our specialty is industrial knives for paper processing
and steel manufacturing. The employees that we're bringing in
now who don't have shop class in high school, who don't know...
how to whittle a part. They've gotta get that experience somewhere,
and that's where MATC has been great for us, or the Wisconsin Technical College System.
A lot of the training has been focused on, how can we get the operators more trained to reduce our lead time,
because customers want stuff yesterday.
We're able to structure the classes the way we felt would be a good fit for our employees.
(Lazar) That definitely benefitted me, because it's so hands on,
I learn a lot quicker hands-on, and especially having an
instructor that has experience, and a lot of experience.
Before I was just a material handler and now I'm reading blueprints every single day,
and actually able to interpret them. I think after this CNC course,
I could probably run almost every machine in the shop.
(Jared) This year, we'll have roughly 3,000 hours of training time with the employees ... which is a tremendous hit on our production schedule,
but we found it that beneficial that we actually want to do more classes next year.
It allowed us and allowed the operators to see hands-on, exactly what they're working with everyday;
to be able to take that and put in their own real life experience.
They don't have to stop a job twice, you know, they can keep, continuing with a job
and efficiently produce at a more desirable time.
