The most rewarding part of my job
is when I see students who don't describe themselves as readers reluctantly come to the
library and start asking me about
the books that they might like and the most rewarding part is when they come
back and ask more questions about more books
that they would like to read. I feel like I'm part of
the transformative process of libraries when
I was growing up my father was functionally illiterate.
He probably had undiagnosed dyslexia.
And my mom would take me libraries and
I became reading and I
thought of libraries as being a very noble place to be an almost magical place.
So I feel as if, even though
I had a father who
wanted to meet but couldn't, I think
libraies helped me become reader.
Well, three years ago when the economic downturn happened
my school district had to you think up some budget cuts
that they were going to have to make and one of the cuts potentially
was libraries. My community,
Bainbridge Island, worked together with the school district
to you try to find a way to fund us and
important and essential programs. And I would just like to say thank you
to my fellow Bainbridge Islanders for
making sure this wonderful library service
has continued. I'm hoping that Bainbridge Islanders
will think that and their investment in libraries
has been a good one. And I especially want to thank the Bainbridge Island Schools Foundation.
