I'm Sagi Schwartz, together with Eliyahu Nawi we are
the initiators, curators and designers of the SKETCHBOOK exhibition,
which this event is part of its creation process.
Before we begin the talks on the architectural sketch
I would like to tell you a bit about the exhibition
and Eliyahu will later summarize where we are at the moment
and where the process is going.
It started as half a joke in a sketching evening we did,
we asked ourselves why do we do this
why we sketch after spending the entire day working with AutoCAD
taking chalk, marking paper, why do we do this?
We started talking and got to sketchbooks, this thing we still carry
we asked what's this thing, why do we still carry it around with us,
are we just two young dinosauers doing something which is irrelevant
and are there other people who are doing the same.
And is this still relevant today,
in the digital age, is the sketchbook,
which is a work tool and also a type of box,
accumulating memories, sketches,
And today, anything not on Facebook or Instagram is transparent
not there, non existent,
What is the meaning of something which is very personal, private,
who actually sees it.
And we asked ourselves if there are other people who do it.
Is it of use to anyone,
is there a way of getting to see these things.
We started playin around with the idea of an exhibition, and that quickly turned serious,
together with Nadav [ZEZEZE Architecture Gallery]
we started working on the exhibition for the past year or so
we are working on the production and curation of this projects.
We plan a kind of experience
which is unique in Israel, and also is not common in the world.
It's different from typical architecture exhibitions
as you can actually hold the exhibits in your hands, these sketchbooks,
you can hold them, smell them, browse through them,
we are planning a movement through the gallery space
which encourages discovery and exposure of the books.
And we are happy to see the responses, and the development
of a discussion which we hope will continue
following our activities.
I would like to thank all of you
and we will now begin.
