Hi there! This is Betsy from Classroom Caboodle. Today I’m going to show you my math review
worksheet packets.
Hi, this is Betsy from Classroom Caboodle.
Today, I want to tell you all about my math skill review worksheet packets. They’re
available on my Classroom Caboodle store. I’ve created these packets over years for
my fourth grade classroom. But you know what, they sure make great extension activities
for third grade as well as reviews for fifth grade. I can tell you, they’re pretty rigorous
for fourth grade once you get into them.
Today I really want to tell you about how I use them in my classroom. Of course, you
can use them as entry tasks or homework or even for teaching some content, but they do
cover all common core state standards for fourth grade.
Well, there’s even some that aren’t common core because I’ve included probability as
part of this packet as well.
This is how I use them in my classroom.
When students walk into my classroom five minutes before the morning bell, there’s
an entry task sitting on their desk. It can be anywhere from four to nine problems depending
on the content that I feel that they need to cover.
And students put their things away, turn in their homework and they get started on their
entry task right away. They work on it independently, they, by all means, can sure ask questions
if they need help.
And most days, then we go over that entry task together where students can share how
they solve the problem, because there’s many different ways to solve any math problem.
It also provides a great morning starter and great conversations around content. I give
students opportunity to score their own work.
One of the things I do in my classroom, too, if when students really struggled on something,
I want them to tell me that because that tells me I need to maybe doing a little teaching
or we need to practice that one again and I can include it on a future entry task.
Students actually look forward to that routine in the morning. They come in, it’s pretty
calming to know exactly what your getting into everyday when you walk through the door.
There’s no surprises, so morning behavior is just like a dream. It goes really smoothly.
Kids like a routine and they know this one really well.
I can tell you that my students every year are very successful on our state assessment
in math, so you might want to give these a try, and by all means, let me know how it
goes in your classroom. I’d love to hear it.
