Hi, this is Miranda Thacker with your KYTC Minute.
Calvin Grayson, former Secretary of the Kentucky Department of Transportation and Director
Emeritus of the Kentucky Transportation Center at the University of Kentucky, received the
Thomas H. MacDonald Memorial Award by the American Association of State Highway and
Transportation Officials. Voice of Bud Wright: The Thomas H. MacDonald
Memorial Award was created in 1957 to recognize a state transportation professional who has
rendered continuous outstanding service over an extended period of time -- or who has made
some exceptional contribution to the art and science of highway engineering.
Mr. Grayson received the award at the recent Kentuckians for Better Transportation conference
in Lexington. Voice of Mike Hancock: I am incredibly proud
to be here today with Bud to present the Thomas MacDonald Award officially to my good friend
-- my mentor -- a true legend in transportation in Kentucky, Calvin Grayson. Please stand
and join us. (applause) Voice of Calvin Grayson: The things that happened
during my career were just doors of opportunity. I didn't do anything -- I just happened to
be where the door of opportunity opened. But everything new I was asked to be a part of
-- the door of opportunity. And we're glad to have the opportunity to
congratulate Calvin Grayson on receiving this prestigious award.
