To show how the duplicate feature works, I'm going to add an up arrow
onto our page
and go into edit
duplicate
this brings up the duplicate dialogue box we want the number of copies
one
the placement of our copy
will be at x axes point 2 of an inch
y axes point 2 of an inch
these are zeros and start color is blue nine end colors nine
clicking ok
shows us that we made one copy
it's point 2 of an inch to the right and point 2 of an inch down
let's add another arrow
go back into edit
duplicate
this time i'm going to make
three copies
i'm going to make them on the x axes only one inch apart
so the y_ axis i want zero
angle zero
we will leave these zero
and we're going to change the start color
to white
and the end color
to black
we see that are original becomes white
and our copies start turning grayer and grayer and our final copy is
black
let's add another arrow
this time i'm going to use
shift F3
to bring up my duplicate box
i'm going to change my number of copies two nine
make my x axes zero
y axes zero but i'm going to change my angle of degrees to ten degrees
so we want to make nine copies at ten degrees
meaning will have ten arrows when we're done will have the original in nine
copies each one going at ten degrees the final one being at ninety degrees
that's changed start color
to light magenta
and the end color to yellow
and here we see that we start
with the light magenta pointing up
and our
final arrow being yellow pointing ninety degrees to the left
going to add one more arrow
holding down shift hitting F three
brings up my duplicate dialog box
this time let's make them larger let's make them one inch
and i'm also going to change my placement
two point two five
so it'll be a quarter-inch
to the right and a quarter-inch down
instead of angling at ten degrees let's change this to three hundred and
fifty
degrees. three hundred and sixty is a complete circle
so this time we should have it angling off to the right instead of off to the left
and we see the original stays the original size
but all the copies have grown by one inch in size
there's one more thing i want mentioned is
we will to place one more arrow out there
looking down
shift f three to bring up a dialog box
we've got this little eye-dropper here and what this does says values from
selection
this will take our values from the selection we see that this one here
was our blue nine
if i click this it will make our start value
blue nine which is the color of the original box
and that's to help you out to get the start color a color that's already out
there
i'm going to insert
a new slide
i'm going to add an up arrow
that is smaller and pointing up
we are also going to make this one light magenta
and we're going to end with
a right arrow that is larger and
pointing to the right and we're going to make that color yellow
and we want to make these slowly get bigger and bigger and bigger change
color
until they reach this yellow final arrow
so i'm going to select both
going to edit
cross-fading
and we'll have
twelve increments is good and leave them both checked
clicking ok
we see that it it is getting bigger and bigger
and changing color so it starts with the like magenta and ends with the yellow
pointed to the right
and when we click off this
will notice that this
is actually a group
if we go back to other page
when we made the duplicates these are not grouped
so if we want all these arrows to be a group i would need to select all these
arrows and you might have to selected a little bit wide
to make sure you get them all in
go in to modify - group
now when i select
i've got my group
now with this crossfade
they do not have to be the same shape we could start with maybe this
door plate
and and
and with
a star
we also want to change these colors to make a little more interesting
going back into edit
crossfade
and we can make this a larger or smaller number
and if we take off
this crossfade attributes
we see that they're always red until the very last one. let's undo that
select them both again
put that back in
and click ok
so it starts at the door plate and we can see it fade in to
this star
because this is a group
if you do what one of these in between you just have to go up into modify un-
group
now i can select one and pull it out
and see that transformation from our original
all the way to are final
and everything in between
i'm going to insert one more slide
going to add an arrow up
just as we've been using it for a while
i'm going to add a star
and we will notice that we can't place it over it while this is selected
but if it's not selected
i can place my object on top of the other object
and if we select these bolth
and going to modify
combine
we said it now becomes one shape
and where they're crossed over
that filled becomes unfilled in the unfilled becomes filled
so if I add this ring
we're going to see where it's white becomes blue
and where it's blue becomes white
and we've got the inside of the ring this should stay blue
but in here should turn white
so let's select everything
go into modify
combine
so it basically just reverses what it was
when we add the new shape over it
now the other thing with this combined is if we go to modify
split
we've got our arrow back
we've got our star
and our ring looks like it's filled
but when we move it we see that we've got
two circles now instead of a
ring
none of the extra handel's work after it's been
combined and then split once it's combined those extra handles are no
longer active
