In La Plata, a bunch of pretty peculiar conditions comes together.
There's a lot going on, a big cultural scene.
There's great diversity, and that diversity produces art.
From an artist's point of view, a musical one,
I think La Plata is one of the biggest power stations in Argentina
no doubt about that
Those three famous legs that
changed the history of Argentinian contemporary music,
of rock, right?
Buenos Aires, Rosario and La Plata
I think that, when it comes to the artistic level,
it's a beatiful city to get
get informed and to get formed
The city itself gives off a positive vibe.
It has that so called human scale,
and that human scale
is somehow developed for some
artistic sensibility as well
As you walk through La Plata
you may find a lot of Morrison-like characters
that no one knows who they are
For example, I couldn't conceive Argentinian rock
without La Plata rock,
just as I couldn't conceive
it without the starting in Rosario
You realize, don't you?
About those starts that happen in this town
and all that game
all that that fantasy that rock promotes,
about what means to be important
or influential,
even if nobody knows you, right?
There's a spirituality
and an inner world in La Plata
that bears a universal connection with the world
I remember that there were bands from La Plata
who played dressed up as what they lived,
and when you went to Buenos Aires,
bands there played dressed up as what they played
What La Plata produced,
from there came out bands as Virus and Los Redondos
A place where the artistic element was always respected,
taken care of, where everybody's always open to some willingness for amazement
La Plata groups were always a little more erudites
La Plata groups always have some sense of irony.
The music, or the musicians from La Plata
stand out for being upfront, for knowing well how to communicate with the audience.
If there's something that sets La Plata apart from the rest of the world is
that it always takes the plunge, its more crafted and has a different weight to it
Maybe to be an amateur here is what anywhere else is to be established
If La Plata is a little Babylon, it's more because of the anonymous stories
stories rather than the big ones that became known
Nothing of what we know today as the rock scene
can be compared with the one of that era
There's an important change in 82 or 83
I don't remember when did we play
If it had been today, we'd have recorded ten albums
And La Plata gets built because
it has a very intense cultural life mold
All we know today as a band's shelf-life
was pretty relative
I was always saying that we have to get independence from the rest of the country
La Plata. To be isolated. A principality
I have a saying that goes that La Plata is the city that has a band for every block
It sported the singular quality of some bands that became famous
nationwide and in Latin America
and also the great explosion of bands that were no that important
but had their audiences and made up a unique scene
It's the city of my life, where I was born and where I expecto to die
It's very difficult to say, because it's the city where I was born, where I lived, where I live, and where I'm going to die.
Without La Plata, Argentinian rock would have remained scanty
It's a city that has a scary cultural thrust
Rock is one of them and then...
I don't know, there's plenty of beutiful girls
THIS IS THE STORY
OF A SMNALL TOWN
WITH A GREAT SOUND
WHEN RYTHM CHANGES
THE CITY WALLS SHAKE
LITTLE BABYLON
CULTURAL RECONSTRUCTION IN THE 80'S
