It has been announced that Accident and Emergency departments will gain more funding. NHS bosses
will make changes to the hospital payment system meaning that emergency units will be
given an estimated 500 million pounds extra a year. Previously a&e departments have been
restricted by a funding rule resulting in them only receiving 30 per cent of the cost
of treating patients admitted as an emergency. The remaining 70 per cent went to local NHS
organisations. Although the system has not been completely axed, it has become more relaxed.
