TRiO is a federally funded program through the Department of Education.
You have to meet one of the federal eligibility criteria,
And that's, either be low-income first-generation or have a difficult disability
First-Generation students are the first in their immediate family to obtain a college degree.
So it just means that, neither your mother nor your father have
college degrees.
I'd like to think of the TRiO as kind of a home.
And by that I mean that we help student connect all of the dots around campus.
So there is Advising, Financial Aid, Admissions, there's testing.
There's this resource, there's the TLC center, there's the computer lab.
Our job is to connect all those dots.
We have tutoring for students who need academic help.
The primary courses that we offer tutoring in are the learning support courses,
So that would be Learning Support Math, English, and Reading.
And that's usually the biggest struggle for students entering Columbia State, if they have those requirements.,
entering Columbia State if they have those requirements
We offer a career assessment, it's usually definitive but I have no idea where to start.
Kinda gives them an idea of what they may have an aptitude in.
From there we kinda talk to them in an ongoing manner,
to help them figure out what major may be good for them.
Students are usually looking for a place to connect to other students,
connect to the resources at Columbia State.
And this is the place where you can really connect.
