Okay, the eyes are a tricky part and they're the windows to the soul. Let's look at the
eye from the side view. There's the nose. An eye is actually a fairly large sphere and
the part of the eye that we actually get to see is actually just a very small part. From
the side, you can draw a line here and draw a line here and that's generally the shape
that we're dealing with. The eyelids naturally come up and over. There's usually a crease
at the top and a small crease at the bottom. That's the basic shape of the eye. And knowing
that, what we've done is I've built up an area around here. Now we'll go back in and
start carving away. Chipping to create this general shape. Later I'll come back in and
chip away this part to create the ball. From the front the eye, if this is the ball of
the eye, there's a little lip here. Then the eyelid comes up, over into an elongated egg.
And here and here, the bottom lip. Here's the top lid and the pupil fits in here. Actually
that's the iris. There's the pupil. There's the basic eye shape. Now we're ready to start
transferring this to the sculpture for carving.
