>> Interviewer: So the first scene's still airing, and there's some very interesting
episodes coming up.
>> Leo Howard: Absolutely.
>> Interviewer: What can you tease?
>> Leo Howard: What was that?
>> Interviewer: What can you tease about the upcoming episodes?
>> Leo Howard: Oh! One of my favorite episodes is coming up called "Kicking It in China",
and it comes down to an epic fight on the Great Wall of China. And it's an incredible
fight scene. It took us a while to get it coordinated and work it out, but it looks
awesome. Trust me.
>> Interviewer: And in that episode, your character goes through some self-doubt, a
little bit?
>> Leo Howard: A little bit yes. He get his hands hurt by the kids trying to sabotage
him for the tournament, and he doesn't know whether he can do it. But his friends encourage
him, and he gets into this fight.
>> Interviewer: Well, every episode seems to have this moral to it.
>> Leo Howard: Absolutely. That's been our goal.
>> Interviewer: So let's talk about that goal.
>> Leo Howard: Absolutely. For the show, we try to have every episode, in a very subtle
way, teach a lesson. There's an episode coming up where Jack might leave the dojo forever,
and he talks to his friends and there's a very great moral lesson to it. Other episodes
are about friendship, pretty much every thing. We teach lessons about friendship, loyalty,
not to lie, different things like that, you know, trying to improve the world step by
>> Interviewer: Step by step. But onscreen, you guys seem to have this amazing chemistry.
How do you guys build that?
>> Leo Howard: Well, you know what, we were so lucky, this is a weird story. The audition
for the show. The weirdest thing, they were auditioning every characters for the show,
and for some reason all of us came together. It was me, Matteo, Alex, Olivia, and Dylan,
and we were all talking out of all the kids in there, there was like 30-40 kids in there.
And all of us got into a group and just started talking and getting to know each other. And
we didn't know it was going to be us, but they chose every single one of us. So it was
just kind of instant chemistry.
>> Interviewer: So you being the martial arts experts that you are, do you coach your teammates
on set?
>> Leo Howard: Absolutely. I try to help them as much as I can. They'll come to me with
questions and say "hey, will this work? Is this realistic at all?" And I'll either say
"yay or nay." A lot of the time it's yes. Sometimes it's no. But I try helping them
as much as I can.
>> Interviewer: So what's your favorite martial arts movie?
>> Leo Howard: Movie?
>> Interviewer: Yeah.
>> Leo Howard: That's a tough one. Anything with Bruce Lee, I love. And also . . .
>> Interviewer: You have to pick one.
>> Leo Howard: I do?
>> Interviewer: You have to just pick one.
>> Leo Howard: A new one. A new one that I just saw recently called IP Man. Love the
movie with Donnie Yen. Phenomenal action, and I love the story.
>> Interviewer: Great. And if you could be king for a day and you can decide anything
you want for your character, what would it be?
>> Leo Howard: My character, hmm. I got pretty much everything I want for my character. I
would love to have a fight scene, I would love to go back to China, actually, just because
it was so fun on the Wall.
>> Interviewer: Awesome. All right, one final question for you.
>> Leo Howard: Mm-hmm.
>> Interviewer: Thirty second pitch. You want to encourage people to start watching the
show. What would you say?
>> Leo Howard: I would say Kicking It has never been done before. We're Disney XZ's
first action comedy show. And kids will really relate to it because there's five of us, and
each character has a different personality. One is a nerdy kid, one's the uncoordinated
kid, one's the cool kid, and so on and so on, and you can really relate to us.
>> Interviewer: Who's the cool kid?
>> Leo Howard: No, I hate saying that.
>> Interviewer: You can say it.
>> Leo Howard: My character is the cool kid.
