Yael: Hi interwebs. I'm Yael, this is Tauri Tauri: Hi
Y: I'm speaking for you. And we're… we just watched Doctor Who, episode 9 of season 7,
called Hide. And we have a lot of *** to say about it.
T: Indeed Y: Basically.
T: So for those who haven't seen this episode - SPOILER ALERT right now.
Y: Here are the issues that I have. I think that's how we're going to start, is I'm just
going to complain. T: Alright.
Y: Why does Clara (Clah-rah), uh, why isn't she doing anything? She - she's become complacent.
He told her to stay in the TARDIS - while he took pictures of the Earth - and not move
or touch anything. She she just stood there. I - I almost miss Amy and I hate Amy. She
was annoying. T: Well, you have to understand that Clara
- at least this version of Clara - is a… she's a new companion. Like, she hasn't seen
all of the world. All the other ones - uh, one, y'know, she was leading a double life
so she… and she didn't go anywhere. Nothing was new to her. Except for The Doctor and
she kinda just took it as it was coming. And the other one was already a space explorer…
I mean, you never meet her in any other context, but I mean, nothing was really going to surprise
her. Y: But she was feisty before.
T: Right. Y: In other versions of her that we have met.
And she was feisty-ish in the first episode [The Bells of Saint John].
T: Sort of. She didn't even know how to use the internet, like…
Y: She was dumb! But she was feisty. T: Right. Um. But again, she's now being put
into all of these new situations. And so, like, even anyone, whether it be a companion
or you or myself, like, when put in new situations. We're going to be a little timid because we
don't how far we can go, we don't know what we really can do within that situation.
Y: But in The Rings of Azkaban - as I like to call it - um, she, like, highjacked the
motorbike, or the scooter. She, like, went out and chased the little girl. She actively
did things. It's like she's moving backwards in timidness. What was your theory on this?
T: My theory, it mostly had to do with the other Clara's that we've seen so far. In that,
like, I believe that they are… they were later versions of her. So right now she's
the timid Clara, and then later as she becomes more of a companion and gets more Doctor Who
ness under her belt, like, she can be more free and feisty and stuff like that. And so
we have to watch her progress into this state of being. Like, she's not just going to be
like, 'I'm Clara' - it's like, 'no. I'm scared. I feel things. I'm effected by the world around
me.' And then later as she gets used to it, she becomes, like, more, um, rich in terms
of character. Like, Amy didn't start out very feisty. She was kind of, y'know, like a 'hot
blooded Scot' - I mean, as it progressed, y'know, she was all like, 'y'know The Doctor
is gunna do this and this is what The Doctor's going to do.' As seen in the episode where
Clara is first introduced, when Amy and Rory come in to the picture. Um, she is essentially
narrating everything and that's what comes with time of being a companion. I mean, you
can't expect her to be like that out the gate. Y: Alright, I'm going to switch gears and
talk about The Doctor. T: okay.
Y: Um, he really pissed me off this episode. He - there was something scary, he heard scary
noises, and he ran away. Whereas the previous Doctors and the previous storylines, he was
like, 'there's something new and exciting. I wanna go see what it is.' And then, when
he met the creature and he said, 'you, you want me to be afraid, well, you've won. I'm
afraid and I'm gunna run away from you now.' Where, he later figured out, 'oh no, he wants
to find his love.' So, had he run towards the "scary monster" he would've realized,
'Oh, this is not a scary monster. It just happens to look like this.' If you go back
to the ninth doctor, in the second episode where he takes Rose to the end of the world,
they see all these different creatures and she's like, 'oh my god, he's blue' and he's
like, 'well, think about what you look like to them. You are a squishy pink thing.'
T: Right, but he was in a contained- he was in a contained area. And it wasn't…
Y: *** didn't go wrong?! *** didn't go wrong!?! T: It did. But it was still, like, he was
in control. And also, you also have to realize that The Doctor as he is now has just kind
of gone through a spell of, he's lost people that he's loved. And also, he's lost, um,
Clara. Twice. In a row. I mean, and this was after his whole spat of, like, 'hey, I was
really cocky and it got my friends into trouble' and so now he's kinda being a little more
meek about everything that he's doing. Y: He's treating her with kid gloves - as
they say. T: Well, yeah! He doesn't want her to die
again. Y: He loved Rose and he was not as.. as..
uh.. gentle with her. And she ended up… stuck in another universe - which is another
thing! Sorry. Minor detail. She's in another universe, they closed the universe. You're
not supposed to be able to jump from universe… just sayin'.
T: It's a pocket universe. It's not a separate universe. It's like, um.
Y: It's okay if it's a pocket? T: Yeah, it's like a branch off of the current
universe. So there's a portal in between. Y: Alright.
T: But second of all. Y: I interrupted.
T: The Doctor at that time - 9th doctor - was also… all… just came from a war. So I
mean, I doubt he's like, 'yeah I'm going to treat everyone super super nice.' He's like,
'no, I'm full of rage and hate and I don't really care about other people's well being
that much.' even though he's still, like, this kind… being.
Y: But he loved meeting new creatures and learning about new creatures and other beings.
He was very clear, uh, about how he was accepting of everyone until they did something wrong.
Unless they were a Dalek. If you were a Dalek he didn't care if you were nice, he was like,
'you're a F… Dalek. You're…' T: Gunna die
Y: That's me censoring a lot of swear words that just happened in my head.
T: Right. But even so. Y: Sorry. We should get back to this episode.
T: Um. Alright. So what was your next issue? Y: Uh.. the house…. and the cold. Because
I think the house looked a lot - and it could be just that they used the same house or it
was a house in England - The house looked a lot like the house from The Snowmen, where
Clara was the governess. It was - it looked a lot like that and then when the windows
got all chilly it reminded me of.. AND, and, and! The Witch in the Well! Like the lady
in the pond. Connections!? Relevance? Theories? T: Maybe! Though, um, the cold could be attributed
to the connection of the two universes. Essentially, that could've been a pocket where they were
overlapping. Y: Sure.
T: And maybe the lady in the well, and the woman in the pond - though that was never
her official name. Y: What? There was a woman in a pond, right?
T: Yes. There was a woman - Y: Didn't they refer to her as 'the woman
in the pond'? T: No. I dont think so. I think they called
her… they were just like, the old governess. Whom is now dead.
Y: In the pond. T: Yes.
Y: 'Cause 'pond' was important. T: It was. Mostly because they just wanted
to tie it back to, um, Amy. Y: I guess we'll see.
T: We will. What are your thoughts, audience? Y: Yeah! Um, let us know your Clara theories.
For those who are keeping tallies of the red - um, she did have a red umbrella and the
red bag. Um, what other theories are really big?
T: Keep in mind that I don't think that the, uh, projection of her had the red.
Y: That's true. The projection that she saw did not have the red.
T: Yes. Y: that's interesting.
T: Uh… it seemed a little older. I'm just saying.
Y: Did it? T: A little bit.
Y: Alright. T: Uhm… but that's just my opinion.
Y: Uh, let us know your thoughts in the comments. There should be a place in the comments. um.
and. We will do this again next Sunday, after next week's episode of Doctor Who.
T: Stay tuned. Y: Yay! Bye.
