Hi, my name is Ana and I'm a Final Year student at Aston Business School.
Reasons why I've joined the peer mentoring scheme is, first of all, I wanted to enhance my employability; secondly,
just because I went through a quite stressful time when looking for a placement, I wanted
to share my own knowledge and experience with other students.
My menteee didn't have much confidence when it came to looking for placements, so I help her
looking for jobs, going through the roles
as well as - we went together to placement office,
we sit down and went through covering letters, CVs,
also attended a few CV events.
During the first meeting, we both... me and my mentee found out that we
are both international; we've got something in common.
And this is when she questioned me - actually - whether the
placement year was very beneficial, and
how it added value to my life, and this is when actually I've listed
all the experiences and knowledge that I've actually learned
about my placement and she actually said to me that this was the point where she'd decided
to actually take up on the placement. The peer mentoring scheme
has definitely enhanced my listening skills,
as well as I've become much more confident. Also I've been questioned a lot of
times - during the interviews - about the
mentoring scheme and definitely employers were
impressed by being involved in such a thing.
Because of the fact that we - me and Jean - we're both international students
I think this helped us both to become friends and not just colleagues.
