PUSD Board Meeting Highlights

Superintendent's Report:
Superintendent Edwin Diaz applauded the students, families and staff who participated
in the District's annual Math Field Day competition, which promotes and celebrates math achievement.
The Superintendent also thanked the Webster Foundation
for its generous donation, which allowed the event to continue.
Mr. Diaz also mentioned that the committee responsible for accrediting
high schools visited Marshall and commented on
the high quality of the school's preparation and analysis of its academic programs.
The Superintendent discussed PUSD's participation in a project
with six other school districts to examine the needs of English Learners.
Mr. Diaz described the initial research on English Learner students
which found the need for more supplemental programs,
better understanding of the classification of English Learner students,
and the need to standardize the district's approach to support English
Learners.
PUSD Libraries:
PUSD librarians presented a report on the services provided by libraries
throughout PUSD and their value to students.
The report included information about the role of libraries in developing literacy,
promoting district-wide events, providing volunteer opportunities
and building community.
Libraries are also an important resource for students to learn research skills.
PUSD libraries provide circulation services, teacher and student support
and technology resources to schools through the district.
The PUSD library collection is worth approximately $6.3 million
in addition to the investments in facilities and staff.
Aveson Global Leadership Academy Charter Facilities:
The Board of Education approved a final facilities proposal
for Aveson Global Leadership Academy for school year 2010-2011 for grades 6-12.
The proposal offers space at John Muir High School
consisting of exclusive and shared space.
The Board also approved a final facilities proposal to Aveson
to continue occupying Noyes School.
Alternative Credits:
The Board approved a total revision of the current policy for
Alternative Credits toward Graduation to standardize credit recovery opportunities
at PUSD high schools.
Other Items:
