My name if Katerina Doldirina,
I’m Georgian
but my parents are Russian.
I’m studying space law
and intellectual property law in Montréal.
I came to study in Québec because
the Institute of Air and Space Law at McGill
is the best in the world.
I’ve been living in Montréal for 3½ years
and I’m staying another year
to do my post-doctorate in Montréal.
Montréal is such a friendly city,
which is why
I’ve made so many friends from around the world.
I love eating and cooking.
This week,
since it’s pancake week in Russia,
I’ll be making pancakes for my friends.
I don’t have to go to Russia to make a Russian dish,
I find everything I need right around the corner.
The universities in Québec are recognized internationally
and university fees are affordable.
Students can get scholarships,
which is what I did,
a scholarship from an aeronautics company.
I don’t like winter, but I like Montréal
for the variety of cultural activities it offers.
For example, I was able to continue salsa dancing here, and
I’ve even improved.
I hope to get my doctorate in May
and if I have time this summer,
I’m going to take a French class.
I didn’t have any problem integrating in Montréal.
I’ve lived in different countries.
Montréal is the most welcoming, open and safe city I know.
It’s so funny, I discovered that
the most popular dish in Québec,
poutine,
has the same name in French as Russia’s Prime Minister—Poutine!
