Italian resort Courmayeur provided the backdrop for the second stop on the Freeride World
Tour 2013 on Tuesday.
Freeriding is a snowboarding and skiing discipline with no set course and no rules to abide by.
Instead, competitors are judged on a variety of themes: control, line choice, fluidity,
technique and creativity.
American snowboarder John Rodosky demonstrated his range of freestyle tricks on the perfect
powder snow - good enough for second place...
While Aurelien Routens of France took the top podium spot - his first win on the World
Tour - with a high speed run full of clean riding and solid airs on the exposed steep
section before finishing off with an impressive straight line.
Swiss rider Emilien Badoux completed the podium in third spot.
Among the skiers, Badoux's compatriot Jeremie Heitz had the fastest run and his fearless
attitude was rewarded with second place - enough to give him the overall World Tour lead.
But Italy's Markus Eder clinched the win with a bold run, impressing the judges with a controlled
high-speed descent down the steep mountain face followed by a flurry of tricks - pulling
off a backflip, a huge 360 and even riding backwards.
Reigning world champion Reine Barkered of Sweden had to be content with a third-placed
finish.
