The University Libraries commemorated "Banned Books Week" with daily readings from works
that have been banned somewhere in the US. The week is designed to call attention to
the importance of free speech. The Office of Career Services held their Fall Career
and Internship Expo on Wednesday. Students were able to meet and network with a wide
variety of employers from the Mid-South and beyond. Stacy McCall, the President and CEO
of ServiceMaster by Stratos, spoke to students about ethics in the business world as part
of the "Know Good-Do Good-Thrive" initiative at the Fogelman College of Business and Economics.
Congressman Steve Cohen was one of the expert speakers at a symposium about the Affordable
Health Care Act hosted by the School of Public Health. Shelby County Mayor Mark Luttrell
also spoke how the changes will affect everyone locally. And students in the Professionalism
First program learned interviewing and resume writing skills from Amber Long, the manager
of performance planning and development at First Tennessee. Visit memphis.edu/professional
for more on the Avron B. Fogelman Professional Development Center. For the U of M minute,
I am John Miller, senior, film and video major.
