It really isn't garbage till you mix it all together.
It really isn't garbage till you throw it all away.
Just separate your paper plastic compose glass and metal.
And then you get to use it all another day.
And now let's get in the talking refuse. That's right,
after this video you'll understand what refuse is and what isn't.
Refuse consists of non recyclable items.
Technically it's worthless stuff.
That's why it is burned.
"It's important to keep all of the refuse and recycling separate in the carts,
that are labeled recycling and refuse,
because all of the City's refuse goes to an incinerator
and it is very unfortunate because a percentage of that
refuse material
is actually recycling that we could then sell. Instead we have to pay
somebody to take it and burn it."
So let's understand refuse.
If you can't recycle it,
composted it,
leave it for the city is yard waste, or dispose of it as a schedule
collection item it goes into your refuse cart.
Of course residents have other options for some materials rather than put them in your
refuse cart.
Used clothing dishes tools and many other household items
may still have useful life. Donate them so they can make money for charity and
save money for Rockville and you as taxpayer.
Compost food scraps, coffee grounds, eggshells,
used paper towels and more.
Montgomery County provides free backyard composters.
Reducing refuse saves money and our environment.
Here's a rundown of what you should place into the refuse cart:
ashes if they're sealed in a bag and cold,
alkaline batteries, cigarette packs, broken dishware, and crystal, broken
cinder blocks, bricks and concrete,
dirt, rocks, and soil.
You must remove them from your yard or compost.
Food scraps that you don't compost, such as meat and dairy products.
Non-recyclable glass such as pyrex, mirrors and ceramics.
You can throw away needles, razor blades, and syringes
just place them first came in and impenetrable container such as a
plastic or glass bottle and put a cap on it.
Latex paint cans so long as the paint is dry.
Pet waste, styrofoam
take-out containers, and vacuum bags.
Oil-based paint is household hazardous waste and is covered in the next video.
Be sure to place all refuse in bags before placing in your cart.
This insurers we pick up all you refuse and also helps minimize odors and
discourages rodents and other wildlife.
And the night before your collection day,
place your cart at the curb or at the latest by six am on your collection day.
And that's refuse. Let us help you get rid of it.
