local companies carver pump company, HON, Monsanto,
GPC, Kent Feeds and Musco these companies helped us build this facility
they also provided a lot of input as to what they need
in trained employees to work in their manufacturing plants
we offer two primary
degree programs here at the MITC
we offer the manufacturing maintenance degree
Associate of Applies Sciences degree and the manufacturing technology associate of
applied science degree
we also have a
manufacturing maintenance certificate program which is a little bit shorter
in duration offer the basic welding certificate
we also offer the
process control certificate
the mechanical design program
available here at muscatine community college and that involves drafting
computer-aided drafting and manual drafting
we offer
CNC machining courses and manual machining courses
people who have an aptitude
or an interest in mechanical
things make make good manufacturing maintenance or manufacturing technology
students people who may have taken courses in high school
and have had at least whetted their appetites towards the hands-on
type of training
would be ideal students here
muscatine is unusual in the fact that it has such a large industrial base here we
have had a and continue to have a very strong
business relationship with the with the area companies their support
both financial
and in terms of equipment
and just ongoing input into the college and the programs
we have career fairs and a large number of those manufacturers are here
uh... along with many others
trying to
talk with our graduates our students in the programs
do some non credit training
or what we call continuing ed training
we have conducted
welding courses for
the local power company Muscatine Power and Water
and also Mid American energy
those are customized classes that that we develop around their needs
and we support those classes here through the college We try to stay on
the cutting edge
of technology
We have the HAAS CNC Mill
the HAAS CNC Lathe out ther
we also have two robots that we use for robotic
training here at MCC
uh... in terms of the electrical courses
i know mister kissler makes use of a lot of programmable logic controller
equipment the actual many computers that that maintenance people find and have to
work on in in everyday manufacturing setting
the welding machines are constantly updated
and we try to keep the lab
as modern as we can
it's it's necessary
that students prepare themselves
for their careers
in manufacturing technology they just need that
the job market for manufacturing maintenance
graduates in this area
is almost undescribable
it's just been a very strong demand
set of skills in this area and i might add that uh... it it can lead to some
very very well-paying jobs
you know these skills change lives
you get the right person in this program
and they're successful
generally speaking there's two or three employers waiting to talk to them at the
end of their program
