What food should you avoid during pregnancy?
Don’t eat any raw meats or dairy while you’re pregnant. The disease risk is too high.
I get not eating beef tar tar, and the thought of sushi makes me sick. How do you get raw
dairy?
Some people drink raw milk, unpasteurized milk, thinking it is healthy. They forget
that this used to spread tuberculosis.
I’ll never drink raw milk.
You might be exposed to it accidentally if you eat soft cheese that were made for a farmer’s
market or home-made yogurt.
I’ll stick to the stuff at the deli.
You have to be careful with that. Some deli meats have listeria, and that can trigger
a miscarriage.
Please don’t tell me I’m stuck with the processed lunch meats.
You can eat that if you properly cook it.
I could go vegetarian. Or even vegan.
If you go vegan, you’ll have a hard time getting enough protein for the baby. And you’ll
need B12 supplements, because that only comes from animal protein.
I’ll eat a regular diet but skip the red meat. Fish is good for you.
Just make sure you don’t eat swordfish or shark or any other fish with too much mercury.
Tuna fish sandwiches out of the can should be safe, as long as they are dolphin safe.
But you can’t eat that more than twice a week.
Everything is toxic!
Beans and legumes are fine if you soak and cook them long enough. Fully cooked meat is
OK.
Eggs should be good.
You have to be really careful cooking eggs thoroughly. And never eat raw eggs.
What on Earth is made with raw eggs?
Some home made custards and Caesar dressing does.
I’ll skip the neighbor’s Hollandaise for the holidays.
For the whole pregnancy.
Then all I have to worry about is what the baby puts in his mouth.
