My name’s Tilly and I study Music. I play the trombone, classical trombone player, but
I want to be a performer,I want to play in like, orchestral pits. Or just be a solo performer
as a career. I chose Huddersfield because it’s a great University and it has
a great reputation, especially for music. My Music teacher’s from Cornwall said how
great it was and said that I should come here.
The tutors are really great here. The lecturers give you a lot of support and they really
encourage you. You’re assigned a personal tutor as well who really
gets to know you. My instrumental tutor definitely helped me with the performance and confidence
issues because they’re all performers in their own right. I really love the teaching
methods here, it’s mainly coursework based or performance based,
and also you have the opportunity to do presentations in groups and on your own. So you’re always
mixing in with the rest of your class. The facilities are brilliant, yeah, there’s
a big music library, which has lots of music in which you can go and study and practice
and perform. There’s a computer room in the creative arts building, which has specialist
music software on it so there’s always a place to work. The Huddersfield Contemporary
Music Festival is really great and whilst I’ve heard of it before I never realised
how big it was and how it’s a really great event for
lots of concerts. Well I think a lot of the time it’s
about making new contacts at University and that’s such a great thing in the music department
because it’s such a community. I definitely recommend the course, it’s a really great
course with a lot of varied subjects. It suits anyone who’s interested in Music.
