First, we check to see if the page is straight.
Make a new vertical guide (click & drag ruler)
It's not, so we need to ROTATE.
The background is locked so we need to SELECT ALL first (CTRL+A)
Ahem, sorry for my *** attempt at rotating.
Well, if it doesn't work out, you can just enter the rotation value up the top.
Now we check using the horizontal guide
Needs a little SKEWING it seems, so go inside Edit -> Transform
Now to crop off the extras around the edges
Good! Now we duplicate the background layer (this will be the redraw layer)
Inside adjustment, select Levels
Now we level the page (both black and white)
DO NOT OVERLEVEL. (Move the sliders too far)
Turning layers off/on to check for overlevelling is good practice.
This new adjustment layer is for DUST checking. Move only the grey slider to 0.01.
The new level adjusment (LEVEL 2) should be above LEVEL 1
Okay now, this needs to be redrawn. No shortcuts. If you know one, do tell.
Select the CLONE STAMP tool or simply hit S
ALT and click the area you want to clone. Then click again to paint.
Doesn't matter if it doesn't look GREAT cause most detail is lost when resizing anyway.
We also need to CLONE the panel lines, NOT FILL.
Mainly because the lines aren't solid black.
But first, we need to clean the dust off. Up to you how you do it.
I'm using the Lasso/Select tool to make a selection then filling in white.
The shortcut for filling a selection is SHIFT + F5
Then we just clone the line back in.
Resizing next. Image --> Resize. (Or use a pre-saved action if you have one)
Different teams will have different size standards. Ours is 1200px height.
Time to remove dialogue so select the brush tool (Or hit B)
Plain white #fffffff and just paint over the text on the REDRAW layer
Ok, here comes the really long, time consuming and *** part of cleaning: DUSTING.
Select the DODGE tool. Highlights. Exposure at 7%. FEATHERED brush.
Now turn on LEVELS 2 (AKA DUST CHECK LAYER)
Also a good time to do levels checking before you dust. Adjust if necessary.
Make sure the GREY TONES are preserved. White overlevel removes them.
Now we begin dusting.....
Adjust brush size if necessary. TRY NOT to go over the black lines.
Brushing OVER grey tones REMOVES them so AVOID this!
Finally onto the last sodding panel. T__T
Next we BURN the blacks. Or more specifically, removing white dust.
Burn tool is under the dodge tool. Set to SHADOWS. Exposure 20%.
Then just go over the black areas that have white specks on them.
Not all blacks need to be burned. The larger areas normally do though.
Careful when burning grey areas as it darkens considerably.
Now that looks ugly, so use a smaller brush and AVOID the grey pattern.
Oops redraw looks a tad dodgy here so let's fix it real quick with some cloning.
Final check to make sure page looks good and you're done!
