That's a ZAGGskin.
What is a ZAGGskin?
The ZAGGskin is a
customized sticker
made by the ZAGG company.
It covers and protects parts of your device,
as well as
adding a little style to it.
This ZAGGskin is on an iPad.
The picture on the sticker...
there's a picture that you choose from their web site,
or you can upload your own picture to their web site,
and ZAGG will print that picture onto the ZAGGskin.
I picked this picture from ZAGG's
picture catalogue.
I like that the install wasn't that hard.
It was easy to lift and to tug the sticker
in order to adjust it.
I like that the sticker is thin.
I was a little worried the sticker would make the iPad too thick,
but it's
thin enough where you can still put the iPad
back into Apple's
iPad case just fine.
It's really hard to tell...
I mean you can barely tell it's
on there from this angle.
Here's the Apple Case...
I'll just show you how easy it is to get it back in here...
it's as if there was no sticker on there...oops wrong way.
If I could just orient it right...
It's a little awkward doing this from behind the camera.
so...
yeah
okay, here we go
easy.
This case...
it's also easy to take out.
I don't like
that there's no side covering
...it's left...
the side is
bare.
ZAGGskins for other devices have side coverings...
like the iPhone ZAGGskin, but
the iPad ZAGGskin does not have side coverings.
Let me show you...
on my iPad I already have some scratches.
It's probably really hard to tell on this camera.
Right there...
I think that's... yeah that's where my scratches are.
You may or may not mind that the ZAGGskin does not have
a matching bezel sticker.
This is the bezel part.
There's no sticker that matches this
back portion.
Other companies that make stickers for the back of the iPad,
also include a matching sticker that covers the bezel,
but ZAGG doesn't offer this.
It's also a little expensive.
It costs thirty five dollars not including shipping.
I used a coupon so I'm not so sure I would have bought this
at regular price,
but...maybe that extra ten dollars is for the
and the invisishield scratch protection which
other companies
don't have.
they have their own scratch protection brands but
I don't know how they perform.
We're going to test that scratch protection right now...
now I'm not going to scratch up my
iPad to test this.
I'll use this metal box down here
to try it out with.
Now how am I going to do this...
the sticker sheet
that the ZAGGskin came on has a little bit extra sticker left on it
so that's what I'm going to apply to this metal box.
So first...
I'm using in Dremel because one of their videos shows
a
scratch test using a rotary tool.
I tried it out a little earlier, it sounds like they're going at about 2000
RPM
and
I'm trying to use an attachment that looks like what they used, this one...
I think this is grinding stone.
So we're going to test this first on the
naked metal box,
at about two thousand rpm.
Let me take this out of the way.
I'm going to make
five motions, sweeping motions forward
with each test.
So here we go...
2000 rpm with the rotary tool
Okay there's five...
on this far edge here.
We'll show you the results later after we finish the test.
I also have electrical tape. Electrical tape is made out of vinyl.
Which I'm ssuming that
the
other stickers are made of.
There's a lot of vinyl stickers out on the market.
I just saw another one on
Amazon
for the iPad...
an iPad sticker made out of vinyl. Supposedly it has their own
special scratch coating.
But in case
it doesn't
hopefully this
electrical tape will demonstrate
something similar to that.
so
I'll put this one in the middle.
Ok, so again I'm going to do
five forward sweeps, 2000 rpm with this rotary here.
Ok, that's five sweeping motions on electrical tape.
So there's a little bit of scraping on there.
I applied about as much pressure on the electrical tape as I did this...
(the naked
exposed metal box).
So lastly we're going to try using the remnant
ZAGGskin sticker
on the remaining portion.
Sooo.
Let's see...
I'll slice it here.
You get a chance to see what it looks like on the back here.
So ZAGG...
for the iPad.
I'm going to place this onto
the metal box.
Ok, 2000 rpm.
Five forward strokes...
on the iPad sticker.
Allright, so let's check out the results.
Let's put this back into the shot.
Okay great...
So here is the naked
surface of the box, let me tap it a little so you can hear it.
This the electrical tape, I'm going to peel
this off to show you if there's been any damage
and wow, surprisingly there's no damage...
from the electrical tape that I scratched.
Check that out...
it didn't pierce the
electrical tape.
I guess if you're in a pinch, wrap up
your device with electrical tape.
And here is the
remnant
ZAGGskin
sticker.
It's a little...
it's hard to tell on camera but
it did scratch this.
And again the
case is bare.
Oh, nothing - it didn't
pierce the skin.
Wow, so I'm not sure what to think now. You get
protection from the ZAGGskin but you also get protection from plain old electrical tape.
And you heard that - that was a rotary tool
scraping along this metal box.
Well there you have it - you can draw your own conclusions
I like mine,
the design I picked for my iPad.
There you go, the iPad ZAGGskin.
