Hi everyone Melanie here! In this video I’m going to show you the basic makeup brushes
you need in order to create a great look for an everyday makeup routine or a special occasion.
I will also go over what each brush is used for because it is important to know how to
use your brushes in the correct way in order to achieve the look that you want. So let’s
jump right into it! The first brush I’m going to show you is
a flat brush and this works well with liquid foundation and this will give you a full coverage.
The way this works is you put the liquid foundation on the back of your hand, dab the bristles
into the liquid foundation about three or four times, dot your cheeks about three or
four times then blend and buff this in all over your face. If you’re having trouble
with acne or any marks you want to cover up then this is the brush. If you don’t have
trouble with acne and you just want that full finish look then this brush will work as well.
If you want to see a demonstration on how to use a flat brush just request that and
I will upload a video. Another way to apply liquid foundation would
be to use a blending sponge. This will give you a lighter finish and it really blends
well with concealer. I’m sorry, it does look dirty. I just used this, I just didn’t
clean it yet. So, anyways, the way you would use a blending sponge is you put it under
water, ring it out until it’s just damp and expanded. Put the liquid foundation on
the back of your hand, take the flat end, dab it into the liquid foundation a few times,
start on your cheek and make quick dabbing motions all over your face to blend. The reason
my you want to dab instead of smearing it on because if you smear it on it will end
up looking cakey and streaky and it won’t blend that way. Another thing I like about
the blending sponge is the pointed end, it really helps get to the hard to reach spots
on your face like the corners of your nose and the inner corners of the eye.
Here is a concealer brush to apply cream concealer to your zitz or blemishes or redness. But,
I wouldn’t recommend blending with this, I would recommend using a blending sponge
to blend the concealer. But the reason why I wanted to show you the concealer brush because
I like to take a little bit of concealer with a brush and go around my lips when I’m wearing
a red bold lip color to really clean that up. I use the brush after I fill in my eyebrows,
I take a little bit of concealer and go around my eye brows to clean them up and help them
look more defined. In order to keep your liquid foundation and
concealer in place throughout the day you need to set it with a powder and I’ll show
you a few brushes to use to apply the powder with. As you can see they all come in different
sizes, from largest to small. The larger brush if you want to apply a foundation on larger
areas, the smaller brush if you want to be more detailed. The best way to use a powder
foundation brush is to dab the bristles into the powder, tap off the excess and make dabbing
motions all over the face. You don’t want to sweep this on because you’ll end up messing
up the work you just did and you’ll end up sweeping the powder off your face. Let’s
say you’re going out and you don’t want to bring a big brush in your purse, you don’t
want it rolling around in God knows what’s in your purse. Just go ahead and take this
little pad, they come in those powder foundation compacts you get from the drug store, they
even come in packs they’re not very expensive. Just dab this into the powder, shake of the
excess and dab this all over your face. This will work as well.
When applying a liquid foundation and the powder foundation, what you’re pretty much
doing is evening out your skin tone and your face does have some sort of color or definition
and the best way to add that definition to your face is to add a bronzer. And you want
to apply the bronzer on certain areas of your face like under the cheek bones, around the
jaw line, the temples, across the forehead nearest the hair line and on the sides of
the nose. I’m going to show you a couple examples of brushes you can use to apply the
bronzer: The first brush is an angled brush that really fits right under the cheek bone
and glides back, blends very well. Another one would be a contour brush, to give you
that really defined line under that cheekbone. And if you’re having trouble finding cheekbones,
just take your fingers and feel for that prominent bone and you’ll know that the bronzer should
go right below that. Or you can suck in your cheeks like a fish, like so, and you’ll
see that line. Or you can just take a brush take the handle on the corner of your mouth
all the way to the end of your ear and you’ll pretty much see a guide line to where to apply
that bronzer. And you want to make sure you don’t want to bring the bronzer too far
forward. So you can just take a brush and right below the eyebrow arch, just make sure
you keep the bronzer in this area, don’t go past this line.
If you want to add rosy cheeks, just use a blush brush. Something to fit on top of the
cheekbones, you’ll be able to work your way back. If you’ve already applied the
bronzer before the blush, make sure you blend downwards where the bronzer is so that it’s
not an obvious separation between the bronzer and the blush.
And it’s a good idea after applying the bronzer and the blush to blend them with a
fluffy brush, would be something like this. You want to just go on your cheek, go back
and forth to make them look more natural. And let’s say you feel you added too much
bronzer or blush on one side, don’t keep adding more on the other side to even them
out. Just take a fluffy brush and go on the heavy side to lighten that up.
Now this next brush is totally optional which is a fancy fan brush. It’s not really called
a fancy fan brush but I think it just looks so cool, it kind of reminds of Marie Antoinette.
But anyways, this is a fan brush, you would use this to apply a powder highlighter. And
what a powder highlighter will do, or any highlighter will do, is give you a glow to
your face. You’ll apply the highlighter on top of the cheek bones, the lower part
of the forehead, down on the bridge of the nose, cupids bow, chin and you can also apply
this on the collar bone. Now, we’re going to get into eye shadow
brushes, which is my favorite. The first brush is a big eye shadow brush
where you can apply this all over the lid, you can use this with a base color.
Next, is a medium size brush to pack in that color on the middle part of the lid.
And a small detailed brush to get to the smaller areas if you want to apply a highlighter in
the corner of the eye or below the eyebrow arch.
This next brush is very, very, very important. It is a blending brush, the reason why it’s
so important to blend your eye shadows together, let’s say, if you are wearing multiple shades
of color you want to blend them because they’ll end up looking divided and sloppy, you want
them to blend pretty much all in one shade. You just take the brush, go on your crease
and go back and forth to blend that. To apply an eyeliner you may use an eyeliner
brush. You use and eyeliner brush with cream eyeliner, something that comes in a pot like
this. And the reason why I like using cream eyeliner because it’s so easy to manipulate
and play with, you can smudge cream eyeliner when you are applying a smokey eye and you
can create a cat eye with that with using an eyeliner brush. I absolutely love using
that. Here is a short eye shadow brush to apply
eye shadow on the lower lash line, you can smudge your eye liner with a short brush.
If you don’t have a short brush, your alternative would be to use and eye shadow applicator.
They come in those eye shadow palettes you get from the drug store, you can apply eye
shadow on the lower lash line, you can smudge with this.
