The High Road is dedicated to the men and women of the United States armed forces. Past,
present and future.
Meet Keith Warren. As a thirty year veteran of the outdoor industry and devoted conservationist,
the original Texas Angler and outdoor television icon has hunted across America and around
the world...
That's bad *** right there!
...showing you big game, educating outdoorsmen...
Yeah, this is good!
...and uniting all hunters.
I'll be signing autographs later tonight. [laughs]
That's Keith Warren and this is The High Road.
I think, see that fencepost there? How far is that to the deer?
Uhhh...
It's 420.
We can easy, if we can get to that fencepost, we can do it. And Brad's up on deck first.
Okay, so what we're going to, but I'll carry my rifle down there on that one brad. That's
a nice deer. Okay, we can get to that fence post from here.
Ever since I was a little boy, I have loved the west. I guess I have watched western movies
and I just dreamed of adventure out west. And, that's one reason why I like coming out
here so much. I mean, the scenery is just breathtaking. And, everywhere you look, it's
just rich with wildlife and beauty. And so, ever since I was a little kid I dreamed about
coming out here. And now, all of a sudden, I found a place that year after year, I come
back to because it's absolutely perfect. Most of this country up here is private property.
And Chris Faber and his family have been around here for I guess close to a hundred years.
The west, it's something that is very appealing to me and appealing to a lot of people and
something that Brad had never done before. He had never come out west and gone out on
a big game hunt. And so, I was looking forward to be able to get him out here, and just to
share the joy of the hunt with him. Share the sunrises and the sunsets and the beauty
of the landscape and the weather and just all of it put together. I couldn't wait to
get Brad out here.
I've hunted with Keith many times for big game, but this is the first time I've had
an opportunity to come west to Montana to hunt big game, and I am really looking forward
to it. In Georgia, our typical shot is about 100 to 200 yards max, so I plan on doing a
lot of glassing because I know that our shots are going to be up to 500 yards or more. I'm
really looking forward to doing that.
This is the most beautiful basin I've ever been in. I've never hunted in such majestic
glory. It's beautiful out here, we're seeing some mature Elk, we've seen a couple mulies,
we're hoping to work over the hills and come up on some mule deer before the evening's
out. But this is magnificent. Wish you were here.
I'm using Keith's rifle again. It's the Savage .270 Lightweight Hunter and it's the same
rifle I've used to kill everything on every show with Keith.
This is a memory of a lifetime for me. Yes! Thank you lord! Ready to fire. I'm on him.
Look at the junk coming off of him. Holy cow!

Now, when you come up here to the Bear Paw Mountains with Bear Paw Hunts, you're going
to, well, you're going to come right to a big lodge. And, Chris has got all the comforts
of home. But, I don't really want all the comforts of home. There's a little cabin that
they've got way up in the mountains, and that's the place I want to stay. Just because, to
me, that's where I kind of connect with nature. It's been a place that I've been able to bring
friends to. And whether we come up and we hunt for deer or prairie dogs, it doesn't
matter. This is a great place to entertain. The Lodge is big and nice and roomy enough
for corporate entertainment if you wanted to bring up a bunch of guests and sometimes
I'll come up here with a bunch of guests. I mean, Chris Faber does prairie dog shoots
in the summertime, I love doing it, but you can take that same corporate group and you
can come back and do a deer hunt up here too.
This is the first opportunity I've had to go Mule Deer hunting. I didn't really know
what to expect. We saw a lot of Mule Deer coming in to the property and walked around
the property several times. But, it was really an exciting time to see how the Mule Deer
interact in the wild, and see the Mule Deer in their natural habitat.
One of the things Keith told me to bring was my spring turkey hunting gear. And, unfortunately,
with the weather change here, that wasn't warm enough, Keith. We had a 6 degree with
a minus 15 wind chill one day, and it got up to 48 another day. So it was all over the
place. But we were prepared for it. I know Keith's been coming out here for a long long
time, and has had an opportunity to hunt these lands, but, now I know, I'm falling in love
with Montana, I am definitely coming back.
Get up on this bank right here. Brad, get up under this bank right here.
Get your backpack.
Ease up there and get on your belly.
Hold on, hold on, hold on. Hold on.
There you go. Right there, right there. Perfect! Perfect!
Nice! Woooo! Ho!
That was good!
He's down.
Nice! I love it! I love it!
Thank you, Jesus.
You just got yourself a big old Mule Deer, buddy. You don't have to worry about him getting
up again. You punched him good. Oh baby. Oh, baby.
Oh, my gosh. Thank you!
You're covered in snow. Worth coming from Georgia?
Hey, you can cover me in anything and make me a snow cone after getting him on the ground.
Thank you buddy.
That's a great deer. That's an absolutely great deer. Thanks.
This is the man, Chris Faber. I've been coming up with him for many many many many years.
And there's a reason why. Every year, there gets to be another reason why or two. Right
now, there's one reason why right over there. Good job.
Thank you, lord. Look at this great sunset coming down.
So, what do you think of that, big boy?
Ho, ho ho ho ho ho ho ho.
Get down there and grab that dude.

Nice!
So what do you think of that, big boy?
Ho, ho ho ho ho ho ho.
Let me see your rifle. Get down there and grab that dude.
Oh, ho ho ho ho ho ho ho. Look at him! He is gorgeous.
Look how deep he is.
Yeah. Beautiful. Beautiful deer.
I mean, absolutely gorgeous. He is deep, he doesn't have any brow tines on him, but look
at how pretty a buck that is.
He is gorgeous. Absolutely gorgeous.
That's a beautiful deer.
I love him. I'm Brad Steele and you're watching The High Road with Keith Warren.
When I wind up coming to the Bear Paws, I typically put aside a week to hunt. Basically,
five days. And, sometimes, I've been able to get my animal the very first day, and sometimes,
well, I've been picky and I push it to the very last day. But there's never been a time
that I've come up here and gone home without using my tag.
In the Bear Paw Mountains, we have a wide variety of big game animals. We can hunt for
Big Horned Sheep, Mule Deer, Whitetail, Elk, Antelope, and Mountain Lion.
There's some does in there too.
Look over in the corner. There's a bigger buck. There's a bigger buck.
Trying to do all this and get it all on camera is, it's a challenge. It can be very frustrating.
It can be very rewarding, but it can really be frustrating when it doesn't happen. When
it doesn't happen the way you want it to happen.
And, little did we know, walking down this creek, the buck that we were fixing to see
was in some of the thickest cover imaginable. And communication, well, it wasn't very good.

Alright, Tracy Byrd writes, hey Keith, I feel guilty about throwing away freezer burned
meat. I'm the only one in the family that will eat venison, and it just gets old before
I can eat it all. I heard about some machine that will keep meat fresh longer, any idea
what that is? Tracy, listen up, and everybody else out there listen up, if you feel guilty
about throwing away freezer burned meat, that's good. Because you ought to feel guilty. There's
no reason to feel guilty, though, if you use a Gamesaver. It's made by the folks that make
Foodsaver, and Gamesavers will keep your meat fresh, well, I promise you they're going to
keep it fresh up to ten times longer. So, even though you're the only one in the family
that eats venison, it'll be fresh, three years from now just the way it was the day you shot
it.
And little did we know, walking down this creek, the buck that we were fixing to see
was in some of the thickest cover imaginable. And communication, well, it wasn't very good.
Got him! Got him!
He's down, he's down!
Look at that. Did you hear that whop? Woo! What do you think of that? What do you think
of that?
That's what we're doing in Montana.
Hoooo, baby. I tell you something.
Man, that big buck came in from the woods, and followed those does up and you just had
a small window to take him.
Folks, the rut is on right here in Montana, we have had screwy screwy weather. I mean,
we've had cold, we've had warm, we're losing all the snow, and I really and truly, I didn't
expect to see that deer right there. We eased down through here and up there and that was
cool. Thanks man!
The name of my company is Bear Paw Hunts because we're in the Bear Paw Mountains in North Central
Montana. We're about 100 miles North East of Great Falls Montana, and that's where,
if you're flying, we'll pick you up there, and bring you out to this great part of the
world. If you haven't been to the Bear Paw Mountains, this is just an amazing place to
be. It's an isolated mountain range. It sits in a very very far off geographical location
where there's not a lot of people, there's a lot, a lot of private land, and the landscape
is just breath taking.
Look at that. Look where he fell.
Look at him.
Right against this big old tree. Talk about thick!
My gosh.
Look at this deer. I like this. Look at that. I'm telling you what, he was up in some thick
thick stuff. What a pretty mule deer. And I like the fact that he's real dark antlered
and he's got, he's all gnarly like that. That is some kind of cool. How much do you think
this guy weighs, Chris?
He's got to be about 250 pounds. He's a big deer and he's definitely an old deer. Big
old belly on him. A muzzle nose.
Look at that. This is a beautiful deer, and best part of it, he's mine. Now this right
here is a kind of deer that you can really expect to get when you come up here to Bear
Paw Hunts. I mean, it's a great deer, it's an old deer, and the good thing about coming
up here, versus going to a lot of other places that I know that sell Mule Deer hunts, they're
not as passionate about Wildlife Management as Chris is. And, what Chris wants to do,
Chris wants to grow the biggest deer that he can grow, genetically, and so he gives
them an opportunity to get good and old.
Nice rutting buck.
Thank you guys. Thank you, now Chris, if somebody wants more information about Bear Paw Hunts,
give them a telephone number.
Phone number is 406-399-4100.
When you come up in this country, you're going to need to bring yourself a good pair of binoculars.
I'm using BSA's 12x42. And, these guys right here, Brad Steele would kill for a set of
these. I'm telling you, he's got some that when he looks through them, everything he
sees has got antlers. And so, what we're trying to do is we're trying to get him to step up,
get a good pair of binoculars, and that way he can see right. Because, there's not a buck
underneath every tree.
