^B00:00:09 >> One more beat and listen. See how it's
moving? >> This Friday kicks off the tenth annual
Oxford Shakespeare Festival. >> It's a miracle really that we're still,
uh, that we made it to the tenth year. >> [Inaudible]
>> Festival founder Joe Turner Cantu will be directing William Shakespeare's Macbeth.
>> I always wanted to direct Macbeth but I -- for whatever reason, I just never got around
to it. And, uh, there's a mystique about it, the play. And I really don't know why I avoided
it because we're having an incredible time. And it's an incredible piece of work.
>> Kicking off the festival is Shakespeare's classic comedy, Loves Labors Lost.
>> It's very important to this community. Joe Turner Cantu started this 10 years ago
and he really showed up a scene that was missing in Summer Theater here in Old Miss. We had
done plays, done plays before here, way back but Joe really brought the best of Old Miss
together. I mean, everything, you know, the law school and all individuals that work in
outreach together to come up with really good theater. And it's really served the community
as well as the college live Web [phonetic] >> [Inaudible] the matter of the day is, I
was taken with. >> Our community doesn't have the opportunity
to see something like Loves Labors Lost unless it's in a movie version or they see it in
our department or they travel at least an hour if not three to four hours to see the
professional quality that they're going to see with this Festival.
>> The Theater Festival would not be complete without a classic musical.
>> Hello Dolly. I had known that Mary Donnelly Haskell was interested and I seized on -- I
was a little opportunistic, I guess. I seized on the opportunity to ask two years ago and
to see if she was interested and it's been a process and here we are.
>> Dolly Levi truly is a role that I've kind of been waiting to get a chance to, um, play.
So I'm thrilled to be a part of the festival and really thrilled to be playing Dolly in
Hello Dolly. >> Haskell is joined by her daughter on stage
who is also a professional actress, an experience she enjoys greatly.
>> We're really enjoying being able to kind of, uh, share the rehearsal process and the,
you know, artistic process and speaking of bringing a show to life. And she's -- I mean,
I'm her Mom so I'm prejudiced but she's so phenomenally talented.
>> And she said the hospital's involvement speaks volumes about the Shakespeare Festival.
>> It says a lot about her willingness to share her talent with the Oxford community
and all our patrons that come to Oxford Shakespeare from away. And but it also says a lot about
the quality of the Festival and where this is.
>> [Inaudible] >> Joe's vision for the last 10 years has
really helped this community here. ^E00:03:28
