We've delivered pandas, an orca, artwork.
The shark from "Jaws" was flown on a FedEx plane.
9 million packages a day.
My name is Pat Doyle.
I'm a Manager IT on fedex.com.
Customers don't come to our website to browse.
We want you to come to the site, find the information you
need, and then ship your package with us.
Having a good store locator is just one step in that chain.
With our old application, we had numerous problems.
It wasn't just the design of the product.
We had problems with stability, and so we were
looking for an alternative.
Google came along at just the right time.
We were ready for a change, and they had some ideas they
brought to the table that we, frankly, hadn't thought of.
Our map now--
using Google technology--
is more interactive than it was.
You can pan around.
You can zoom in.
You can use satellite data on top of it.
You can have Street View.
But the biggest thing that we have now is the way the data
is replicated in the Google Cloud.
Now if we have a storm that's coming through the East Coast
and we need to close some stores there, we update the
hours on the store in fractions of a second.
Everyone that looks at it says, wow, this is the way all
store locators should be.
I'm sure most people have no idea what went into it.
But they'll notice it once they use it.
