...pretty ominous looking hole right there. We're taking a look today at the
Samsung SPA400B multipurpose projector, and the whole point of this thing
is that it is multipurpose, it can be used in the office,
or as a cinema display. And that's something
that you don't see very often because you're making compromises
usually in a situation, you usually want one of the other.
Business projectors are going to have very bright settings,
so they'll be very high lumen, which this one is, actually,
so you can show a bright display in an office room
that will usually have slow response times and a lower contrast ratio.
Cinema displays, on the other hand, are usually in a darker room,
so they have less brightness, because that's going to give you more colors
and more...contrast. Contrast! That's the word I was looking for.
Contrast, so you're going to get black blacks with that toned-down pitch,
so that's the difference, and then also of course
there's the aspect ratio, it's 4 x 3 instead of 16 x 9,
so check this out, this is what Samsung did, they made a 15 x 9 projector,
and what happens then is that you can do 1280 x 768 PC input
for your powerpoint presentations or whatever you want to do
and you can also do 720p if you want to input a video
or television or whatever, you know? So they kind of made it very multipurpose.
Now, let me talk about the specs. There's two modes on here,
there's a video mode, and there's a presentation mode.
When you put it into video mode, it drops it down into cinema mode,
it drops it down from 2000 lumens to about 1000 lumens,
which is what you want for cinema because you're going to be in a dark room anyway.
When it's 2000, hey, it lights up everything, but when it's only at 1000 it's nice
because you get really dark blacks and you get really bright whites.
So let's talk about some of the specs, again I said 15 x 9,
which is a little weird, but that's the way they worked it out--
15 x 9 aspect ratio, it looks very pretty as you can tell,
it's a very interesting design. Those are buttons actually in the middle
that you can't see but those are buttons,
and those are how you control your menu, your source, your power,
and then the cursor and the enter key for going through all your menus,
it also comes with a very sleek looking remote control that kind of matches
the whole dolphin-- I think they call it the dolphin thing, it looks all curved...
curvaceous...ironically enough, you can't really put it down because it's curved on one side,
but that's pretty cool because you can spin it
and it gets you dizzy. A lot of great buttons on here,
if you look, you've got on and off, you can control your lightness,
you can control what input you have, because you do have HDMI, composite,
and component and S-videos and VGAs which includes a passthrough,
you have an auto key, and then you have your keystone correction,
your picture mode, your picture size, still images, and other buttons
that you're going to use when you have this and you actually know
how it works. So 2000 ANSI lumens, it will project up to 250 inches,
so that's a huge screen. If you want to back it up,
you know, forget your 42-inch plasma, this is something that will do
a whole wall of cinema goodness and you'll have 720p,
it'll look great in high def, and you hook it up to your surround sound system
and your good to go. You don't have to have a TV in your house,
you don't have to hang anything on the wall, all you need
is a white wall or a screen, which is a little bit better
because it's non-reflective, and you can throw stuff up on the wall.
So very interesting. Let me show you the back of this thing,
let me show you all of the good, good componentry that you get
on the back here. Starting off over here, you've got components,
which is very nice, because that will do high-definition, and that's going to do
your 720p, and then right over here that's your VGA in and your VGA out,
so you can have a passthrough for your monitor, this is your HDMI
which will also do the 720p, it could do 1080p, but this thing doesn't go that high
so it doesn't really matter, still pretty cool,
this is your composite for your regular old, boring video input source
in case you've still got one of those, S-video, this is a USB service port,
and let's see, what else can I tell you about this thing, it's very quiet,
28 decibels in quiet mode, which is your cinema mode,
and 32 in display mode for office kind of stuff, so it's very quiet,
it's not going to distract you while your watching a movie, 28 decibles is about eight decibles
above studio silence, which is pretty quiet, it comes with a really nifty lens cap,
and it's glossy-- it's got my fingerprints all over it...there you go,
and fits right there, adjustable keystone correction,
you can mount it just about anywhere, mounting is kind of important--
i'm going to show you the bottom of this just so you can see the four mounting ports
if you want to put it on your ceiling or on your roof,
any one of those universal mounts will work and you can flip it upside down,
so if you wanted to, you could hang it off your ceiling like this,
and that would be no problem except that Samsung would be upside down
and that looks kind of goofy, but it's not a big deal.
It will work just about anywhere and again, it's decent weight,
but it's not as big as most cinema projectors, and that's because it does have
that dual-purpose role. The whole point of this thing is it's dual-purpose
and it does that...excellent, excellent contrast ratio and it's very bright,
excellent system, Samsung, it is the SP8400B.
They should name these things and have like, less complicated numbers,
but anyway, you saw it here first, it's a multipurpose projector,
if you have any questions on it, e-mail me, i'll see you guys next time.
