Chief selects from around the Northwest attend the inaugural Chief Petty Officer Legacy Academy,
USS Turner Joy.
What we are doing is a lot of heritage and community work learning more about where we
came from and where we are going with the Navy
The academy is designed to prepare soon-to-be chiefs for their new roles in the Navy, with
an emphasis on Naval heritage.
"A sense of heritage is important because we are building our Sailors up to our level,
and what better way to train Sailors and give them knowledge then through the history we've
served and what the Navy has come to. We instill that into them, we bring them up to that level
to give them pride and professionalism and to understand why we as the United States
Navy are the number one in the world"
From Navy Public Affairs Support Element Northwest, I'm Petty Officer Ryan Riley.
