The Kentucky Adult Congenital Heart (KACH) Program at the UK Gill Heart & Vascular Institute was started in early 2016 and is the only such program in Central Kentucky, Eastern Kentucky and West Virginia. Our experts partner with you to provide personalized, adult-focused care and treatment of your congenital heart defect. Adults born with heart defects face unique challenges. They outgrow their pediatric cardiologists, but their heart problems can be very different from cardiac conditions that begin during adulthood. Take the first step toward lifelong care of your congenital heart condition. For more about the program visit ****** Transcript: My name is Erica Russell and I am an adult congenital patient. I was born cyanotic, which is blue baby. So my parents knew from the get-go that I had health issues. So when I was three days old I was brought here to UK. I've been at UK my entire life. Well, since I was three days old-- same thing. The environment has always been great, it's just the staff have always been friendly, they're kind of like an extended family, for the most part, because I've spent so much time with them. So it's been recently the new group with Dr. Leventhal and Jessica, they're pretty much just like close family. So you have your related family and then you have your medical family, which is just as important because you have to know who to ask some questions to. That, as great as your relative family is, they're not doctors. So it's always good to kind of have that life line to call and ask that question when you don't understand exactly what that result meant. So having somebody to actually talk that understands it is huge. I don't see another surgery in the near future, or any that I've been alerted to. So I'm kind of in that point where I'm just like anybody else walking down the street. You don't know what's going to happen, so you just kind of have to live every day to figure it out.
