Hi, my name is Michelle Allen. I graduated from UK in 2006 with a major in accounting
and finance and also in 2010 with my Masters in Business Administration. I just think that
being a UK, or having UK as your alma mater is just such a statement in this state and
I'm so proud to say that I graduated from here and that definitely helped shaped me
into who I am and allowed me to display that, even within the business world and later,
a couple of years after I graduated, I started my MBA program at UK, I loved it so much I
had to come back for more, but that definitely opened additional opportunities within my
company. I'm an associate brand manager for Valvoline at Ashland Oil and what I'm responsible
for specifically is our next brand gen brand of motor oil, which is made with 50% recycled
oil, so it's a whole new platform for the motor oil category and I'm specifically in
our DIY channel which is Do It Yourself, so it's the people out there buying oil at Wal-Mart,
AutoZone, Advanced, O'Reilly Auto Parts, so it's trying to understand those consumer insights
that will allow them to break through and purchase our motor oil, so I develop advertising.
It's essentially running a business, but for that brand. So every day is a new day, no
day is the same, which I really like the challenge of that, of trying to make this brand big.
. I truly believe the fact that I had that degree allowed me to get an interview for
the job I have now. I am by far the youngest, for example, in my department, but I think
that just showed my capability and my promise to continue that education process and allow
me to use that to better my career. . I came from a really small town so it was really
important for me to have these huge aspirations as a businesswoman and I feel like UK helped
me get there. So it definitely has a special place in my heart.
