"It'll make you feel better, It'll make you feel good". What do Vermouth and Absinthe
have in common". "Yeah it looks like we found a plant that
really grows well in these dunes". This is an Artemisia.
Artemis a greek goddess daughter of Zeus , the twin sister of Apollo. Plants and animals
were sacred to her....thus Artemesia-
This plant has a strong aroma -similar to menthol... and bitter tastes.....This is due
to organic compounds designed to reduce predation. Contained within are many classes of chemicals.
To name one...Terpenoids- Terpanoids are strong smelling compounds that affects the chemosensers
and nuerotransmitters in nearly every living thing... They play a large role human metabolism
as well. Sesquiterpene lactones are molecules created
by the plant enzyme Terpene synthase - a class of chemical compounds; built from three isoprene
units- a lactone ring. Different variations are found in different plants and humans are
very sensitive to the effects. Now for the good stuff- Artemis-i-nin a sesquiterpene
lactone -- Found in chinese remidies this super compound used worldwide for the treatment
of malaria . Anti Malaria! And for staying up late -. Thujone- a Monoterpene
Ketone. Nearly all Artemisias contain small amounts of thujone or- a variation....well
known for its psychoactive effects -in the the 17th and 18th century it was mixed with
alcohol and marketed as absinthe. Artemesias or wormwoods are best used in moderation the
healing benefits are overshadowed when large amounts are ingested. Im going to leave you
with posters for absinthe
