Eid holidays have come to an end, but it seems like the
Eid hangover of government officials hasn’t ended yet.
Which is why, it seemed like it is a holiday at the Sindh
Secretariat near Kabootar Chownrangi.
Be it agriculture or education department, livestock or
minority affairs – seats of the officials remained vacant and
applicants coming in to the secretariat returned disappointed.
The only officials that were seen there only came to seek
more days off.
OFFICIAL: We have kids over, they are celebrating, I didn’t
feel like coming.
OFFICIAL: Attendance will remain low today as most of the people
have gone to interior Sindh.
OFFICIAL: Did not have fun at work today, did not feel
like coming at all.
OFFICIAL: Didn’t feel like coming to work today after
four days, really wanted to come on Monday.
OFFICIAL: It was the first working day after Eid, was
tough coming to work but had to.
Officials with permanent job failed to show up at work, but
this roadside vendor, Rajab Ali, who makes his livelihood with
his weighing machine, has reported to duty, because he knows that
a day’s absence can make his family sleep hungry.
RAJAB ALI: I have four daughters and I am the sole earner of my
house. We live in a rented house and can hardly make the ends meet.
The bread-winner of his four daughters, Rajab Ali, who earns about
Rs100-150 a day knows his responsibility unlike those who take
thousands of rupees as salary.
Which is why, the proper attendance will only be witnessed
Monday onwards.
