Let's go! Here at Columbine basketball, we're really
trying to develop a program that really focuses on defense, teamwork, and really learning
how to play the right way. So up and down through every single one of
our levels, it's all about developing the player, teaching him how to play the game
the right way. From footwork, fundamentals, all the way on
up, we want the kids to work together, really play defense.
So you really see: we don't run a lot of set plays, a lot of set offense.
We just teach the kids how to play the right way.
That's the most fun to play, it's the hardest to stop, and that's the way you're going to
win championships is just playing the right way, baby.
One thing we really worked on, getting ready for this season, is just make each one of
these players as good as they can be, and give them the skills to let them be able to
play together. You know, passing skills, being able to receive
it, being able to handle the ball with pressure, you know, shooting in certain spots, that
our offense gets his shots every single time. So once they get in the game, we don't even
need to think, we just play the game. And the kids really worked hard, we really
-- you know, really got better over the off season.
This year's varsity team, we have, you know, eight seniors on the teams, bit of a, you
know, an older group, very physical, very talented.
You know, really, you know -- but we're really working on getting them to work together.
We've really gone through a lot of adversity, you know, lot of sicknesses, injuries, and
stuff like that, but the most important thing is we're kind of gelling, we're bonding, we're
coming together here at the end of the year. Hey, and we're going to make a deep run in
the tournament. You know, hopefully, you know, get some games
under our belt in the tournament and really show, hey, what the potential was if we hadn't
seen this adversity we saw all through the year.
You know, it's a team that's going to be the first one in this new culture that we've got
to go through and to graduate. And, you know, they can say they were the
first ones that started off what's going to turn into a very special basketball program.
