A city
can be very powerful building equality.
We are talking about income equality,
with capitalism we see that everyone
accepts today as the best way of managing
most of society’s resources…
There’s income inequality, but there are other kinds of equality.
Equality of life quality,
That all children have the same chances
of developing their human potential, of having access to sports fields,
parks, music classes.
I don’t know the Brazilian Constitution,
but I’m sure the first article says that
“all citizens are equal before the law.”
A practical example:
I was a student in Paris, many years ago.
I was very, very, very poor,
but we went out and we had Paris.
Parks, mass transport, cultural activities, conferences, beauty,
And I was very happy.
It was a good city; rich and poor
are equal in many circumstances.
Are equal in the public space,
are equal in public transport, in cultural activities.
A city can powerfully build
equality and quality of life and allow
allow its citizens not to feel inferior, not to feel excluded.
